Ovation Magnum II Bass

I have an Ovation Magnum II bass. When I was playing it quite a bit (a long time ago) the input jack quit working. In my cleverness, I put a switch in to turn the battery on and off. I am looking for either a replacement jack or how the wiring goes back on the jack. I believe switchcraft makes a stereo jack that might work. Just wondering if anyone has a picture or a spec on the replacement jack. Thanks!

I owned that Magnum 2 many years ago and I remember the jack breaking. Like you, I added a switch (added an led, too, 'cause...pretty lights LOL). That bass is one, of two, I regret getting rid of.

In the "Ovation Magnum Owners Unite!" thread, post #280, I posted a preamp schematic, an illustrated parts breakdown (IPB) of the entire bass with part numbers for each part, and a bill-of-materials (BOM) part numbers list for just the preamp components. IPB and BOM include a reference to the jack.

Maybe contact Ovation with a part number. Might get lucky.

Anyway, hope this stuff helps.

If you have a picture of the broken one, it should be easy to recommend a replacement. Almost all active basses use a stereo jack. Normally the wiring is with the output from the preamp should be wired to the tip. The battery negative wire should go to the ring. The ground should go to the sleeve.

Unfortunately, not this one. This bass just HAD to be different LOL.

It uses two 9v batts, but instead of 18v total (like regular 18v systems), the system ground is set between the two batteries. This allows +9 and -9 voltages. So, the jack is kinda special with it's internal switching. Here's a clipping from the Magnum 2 preamp schematic.:

Hard to see in the picture, but the red wire on the terminal on the left goes to the PCB (red wire on top)and I believe that the original wiring had the red, orange, and black going to the terminal on the right. Apologies if the picture is way too huge. I'm still learning how to post stuff on this site.

I always loved these Basses!! Wish now I had bought one!! I do love their bridge design. And its top loading too!!

Sorry to resurrect this old thread. I need to replace my output jack on my Magnum IV (same wiring as a II). Were you able to use a regular stereo jack as a replacement? I'm new to wiring/soldering and every jack I've found only has 3 tangs instead of the 6 or so that the Magnum output jack has. Not sure where the red, yellow, black, and ground are all supposed to go.

The BOM on that is calectro F2-847 - and I cannot find much on it in a quick search. I have the Magnum 2 and remove the batteries since I replaced the jack... until I play, then put batteries in
it is an odd setup
