I just read a string from a couple of years ago from a guy who had a Magnum chassis with a single central pickup and a set neck. Out of the woodwork come several other owners with this oddity. THey ought to join your group.

I recorded these direct through my prototype Mesa/Boogie Bass Triaxis running through my ADA Ampulator - which basically recreates my live tone almost exactly. There's nothing else on here besides normalization.

You just might. I'm 30 minutes away from completing this same mod on my fretted Magnum. It shall sound like millions of voices crying out in terror, which shall then be suddenly silenced.

SN 2440, close to mint condition. Bought it from a guy in Tulsa for $350 about 8 years ago. No neck dive and certainly not the heaviest bass I've played.
Tracked with it again tonight, neck pu through a Trace GP12XV pre, bridge through a Pignose 60R... unbelievable.
Always get positive comments on the look of the Magnum and women love it... just sayin'.

Which mod is that? You have done a number of mods to your fretless Magnum, if you will recall.

I've done exactly the same thing to each bass, except one shall remain fretted.
I was just about to finish everything up this morning, but unfortunately one of the pickups I received was magnetically out of phase with itself, so now I have to wait for a replacement to finish the job. Pics to follow.

I had a good friend who owned a fretless Magnum with the graphic EQ. Rather than yanking the frets he filed them down to the fingerboard. There was an odd, synthetic smell whenever you opened the case...That thing sounded BIG!
Found a cool Magnum 2 - number me too! This is a very clean bass - great condition. Weighs 10.1 pounds, not bad for a beautiful slab of mahogany! The jack is wired ahead of the preamp for a passive output (volume and pickup selector switch work for passive too). There is a spare jack inside the body wired to the 18v preamp. In my initial tests, I got a lot of noise out of that preamp. I took it out of the shielded body cavity and it picked up a local radio station! 
I am thinking of probably reinforcing the pickguard and adding the active jack to it. That should cut back some of the noise.

I just got the replacement pickup today. They told me it would be 48 hours, but it took three weeks! So while I waited, I decided to go ahead a refret it as well. I just brought it home - pics to follow!

Finally! I got my pickups in, did all my routing, wired them all in - and my rear humbucker was magnetically out of phase with itself. Three weeks later, I've finally received my replacement pickup, dropped it in, and it's done.
While I was waiting for my pickup to arrive, I decided to go ahead and refret it using our new Plek machine. I opted for giant stainless steel frets, made a nut out of buffalo horn, and set it up for SUPER low action (.060" bass side, .050" treble side, measured at the 12th fret).
It's absolutely monstrous now (as if it wasn't before). Check it!
