Actually, I have wronged you…. You are correct, if a person in the classifieds is trying to sell an obscure not too well known brand of pedal with a weird name that doesn't tell you what it does then they better put some links in there to make it easy for you. After all, they're trying to sell the bloody thing.

The Boss OC-2 fad got me. That was a fun one to explain to my wife as I tried to stay totally strait faced when she asked me how much it was.

Also by unpopular opinion I have tried most Darkglass pedals and they are just to tinny high end fake grindy sounding to me. And I play grindy with zing but not that staticky crackle. I wanted to like them so bad.

my favorite underrated pedal is the Ibanez PD7. I can get it to sound very 3D and aggressive without loosing the actual bass.

I love the OC-5 and the OC-2.
The OC-5 has the octave pedal spot on my board now. That's becasue the vintage mode advertises to be "the same as the oc-2 with better tracking" but... it's not. The tracking is better, but it's not an OC-2. Not quite.
That said I use an octave pedal so much that I just sticky with the OC-5 live so I don't ever have to worry about glitching.

I wish I had some of the pedals I used to have, just so I could sell them at a huge profit! :laugh: Don't know mush about this new-fangled (post-1978) stuff you kids are talkin' 'bout. Now, I have a few, mostly cheap compressors, and they rarely get used. 2 that are almost always used: LPB-1, FDECK HPF. Pretty lo-tech but make my ears so happy!

Right? There is certainly a class of products which are good and deserve some hype but they have received disproportionate amounts of hype relative to how good they are. Saying something is "overhyped" doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad product.

I have both the OC5 and the C4 on my board. The poly mode of the OC5 is a great deviation from the classic OC2 recipe, and the C4 does not excel at polyphone octaving.

I'm with you on this, I think the real underhyped guy in the OC line up is the OC3, it's pleasingly artificial, plus… it's got a drive in it!
I do love the OC5 for the +1 in front of a fuzz though, but straight up octaver, I'm all about the OC3!

Any pedal that comes out in small batches that people turn around and ask more than the new price for it. When it's still in production. Not necessarily the pedal being overhyped, more the act of it being up for sale in the window between batches being overhyped.
Also, alternate colored Earthquaker Devices pedals, get a grip people, it's paint! I saw a $500 plumes the other day on FB.
I love Earthquaker Devices though.

Wow the Saturn VI is my favorite on one of my boards. Provides the harmonic content to make all your other pedals sound better. I love it for adding more character to my tone

I try to be considerate of potential buyers...I don't want them scrambling for the dope if it's something I can address with a few simple swipes of the keyboard. That includes descriptions, pics, links, etc. This frequently brews sales among "impulse" buyers or those who are merely casually scanning the forum(s).

This begs the question what the term "Overhyped" translates to.

Most people who chip in here seem to name that one pedal that has a good reputation on TB, but did not do what they hoped it would, or did not fit into their signal chain, or did not satisfy their personal taste.

Take the Barbershop. I don't think it is overhyped. It is a very good low gain drive pedal, same as the Saturn VI.
There's a flavor to both, and not every tongue is the same, so for every few people who love it, there's someone that does not.
