Overhyped Effects

3Leaf. There, I said it. The initial buy-in is getting exorbitant and in my experience they don't offer anything that can't be reasonably approximated by other makers at lower price points. For me, they're the most incorrectly-hyped.
I run a Tech21 Geddy into an Ampeg SCR-DI. Monster tone from two pretty cheap pedals. Looking at the SGT-DI, or the HX Stomp to maybe replace. HX Stomp as I'm starting up an 80's-90's band, and will actually need some effects
I feel like nothing is really over-hyped, it's just whatever works for you. The B7KU works great for plenty of people, but it was one of my quickest pedals to turn around. Just didn't do it for me. The B3K, however, has been a staple on my board for years. It's all in the details. I've got similar stories with guitar rigs. For me, with such a plethora of amazing pedals to choose from, it sometimes comes down to the builder. Some have reputations, either positive or negative. I do my best to stick with the positive ones.
Over-priced pedals, maybe. But just because it doesn't work for my budget doesn't mean it's not worth it for another person with a higher budget. That's how the system works. I usually try the lower-priced options first before I spend the big bucks, and on most types of effects, it works. Dirt is the only one that I often have to go "boutique", but even then, there are plenty of solid, mass-produced choices readily available.

3 leaf audio stuff is pretty overhyped. Not worth the money or the trouble trying to obtain one. Much like most rare Broughton pedals.
Josh is much less Musk-like in his public persona, though.
I would disagree with calling the SABDDI overhyped. It feels appropriately hyped to this fellow.
Too true. And to clarify I think Josh puts out top notch stuff, but the super rare ones, many of which I've owned at one point or another, just aren't worth the trouble. Mainly because there are like three people who have them and all they do is trade them to eachother for other rarities, LOL.
Lots of mentions of the Barbarshop. Never owned one but used one in the studio on one track. Sounded great. Can't remember which track. Same session I used a EQD Julia. Sounded amazing in the recording. Never got that sound live. That's all to say I fully get why things get hyped. I'm glad they work for many. I also get why people feel bitten by the hype.
I also did not care for the CAL Holy Fire on bass. I bet it's a killer guitar pedal though. That said I love the CAL Grizzly. It's…..properly hyped IMO.
Overhyped I have to Darkglass, B3K especially, and the Sansamp VT Bass. Never liked either one.

The overhyped flavor of the month seems to be anything by SushiBox. Their stuff gets recommended even in threads that have nothing to do with their type of pedals. It's starting to be a disservice to the manufacturer.
But like said before, this place runs on hype.

At different times here on TB, Carrots have gotten a lot of hype. Carrots work well in my current setup so not necessarily over-hyped, but if i find a sweet potato that works better then add carrots to the list.
In seriousness, despite the influence of TB and the relevant tubes, my pedalboard has ended up smaller and more generic than anticipated.

It's great but a pedal in the 200 range will do almost the same thing. So many videos of DI boxes out there, blind tests and all that that basically destroy Noble in terms of "why".

2 & 5 never heard of 1 & 3 are popular I would not call them over hyped. 4 has many clones based off it so that also means not over hyped so basically another persons views being completely overstated LMAO! Oh wait this is Talk Bass LMAO!

Didn't you read? All things. Even the prototypes that nobody has ever heard of. They are so unobtanium that it is beyond overhyped. It is hyperhyped.

Yes, I guess I was just seeking a more intelligently thought out approach to a specific experience that led to such an all encompassing proclamation of overhyping an entire entity.

I think TB has little pockets of cult pedals, and if you read the comments about them without any wider context, then you might be forgiven for thinking they're the answer to all your problems.
While in reality they probably do one thing very well, and that thing is useful to the enthusiastic commenters but may or may not be useful to you.
People also go through honeymoon phases with the latest and greatest pedals and those comments are still there, trapped in amber on the internet, long after the pedal is sold.
Lost my train of thought there.
