Overhyped Effects

Lol..I'm gonna pull the pin and toss this grenade on here....
How many pedals are considered " "overhyped" because the user didnt take the time to fully use or undestand how the pedal works, and how it works with their current gear, get frustated, and sell.
Some of the pedals mentioned here have been good sellers for a number years, so something is working...lol.
Anyway, people get WAY Butthurt about gear in general. Remember it's supposed to be fun.
I have a pedal board with 13 pedals. Only 2 are "essential".

CCP pedals are the most overhyped and overproduced pedals of all time.
The names are silly. So silly that if someone told me there was a Gumby Dumpster Fire pedal, I'd believe it. I presume that would be some sort of distortion
Every compressor pedal and distortion pedal is overhyped. Just play less/more aggressively, develop some callouses on your fingers or get a few thimbles to play with.
So that's what I've been missing.

Nothing is overhyped. The perception of overhype is just an opinion and everyone has one and they are only right or wrong for that particular end user. Nothing else matters. Not even the trolls.
My "significant contribution" (or lack thereof, as you put it in that particular post) is to not bash anyone else's hard work or livelihood or company without merit, and to just bash the ignorance itself instead.
Carry on.

I got a Khan VTDI and after a couple of weeks and A-B'ing in headphones with and without it, I really could not hear any difference. On the other hand, I got an Origin Effects DCX Bass and it made my P bass sound like my P bass but just much better. The Khan has moved-on and the DCX is always-on.

I think "overhyped" is directly proportional to your expectations and preconceptions.
I came to the Barbershop with some trepidation, mainly because of both the original glowing reviews and tempered by the fact that some others really didn't like it and found it "farty". I thought that the opinions seemed rather polarised (although tilted to the positive) but was worried about which camp I'd fall into, and if it was the negative one, whether that meant there was something wrong with my gear, my settings, or my ears.
I found I liked it for a specific use in my chain (following some other drives and providing some power tube-like characteristics) in which it functioned better than anything else in that spot, but it wasn't my first choice as a primary "do it all" drive pedal.
