I agree entirely - Schonberg is highly rated by many critics and is seen as the father of atonal or pantonal music - but these works are rarely performed, not because they are over-rated or under-rated, but because they don't go down well with audiences!

Yes I agree, I myself prefere Berg to Shoenberg, mainly due to his melodic approach to 12tone.

Have you heard Shoenberg's Piano Concerto? It's actually quite an "interesting" and highly listenable piece considering the context.

You know, you don't see me in the "Underrated" section demanding people explain why they think what they think and insinuate that an opinion is less meaningful if someone in the press hasn't already said it.

Paul, I hope you were not referring to me in this quote.

1. I did not demand, I merely pointed out that your opinions would be better understood and more instructive to others, if you gave your reasons.

2. In a discussion forum such as this, when posting an opinion on such as subject as this, I would would have thought that you would expect people to ask you to explain your comments.

3. I never mentioned critics or published opinion at all. Quite frankly, my whole love of orchestral music is based very much on the esthetic and emotional appeal of the music to me. I am not well schooled in the styles and theory of it all, and am barely cognizant of critical opinon.
