This might have some crossover into the hardware forum, so forgive me if this is not the right board!
Just throwing out feelers for thoughts or ideas. On the grand scheme of things, this is almost negligible.
I had a new bass day (AO 50's precision) about a month ago and got a new set of LaBella's 45-105 to go along with it. Been playing pretty regularly since, ~2-3hrs/day.
You know the harmonics at the 2nd/4th/5th/7th/9th frets? They are all just poking out...ever so slightly. It's hardly noticeable through my 1x8 combo, but these overtones are a bit more present on DI.
I'm thinking the cause can be a few things...
--Action too low. Its pretty much set as low as it can go without rattling off the frets at normal dynamics...can get a growl when I really dig in. I would give measurements, but unsure how to do properly do that. And it's not the break-angles. I already fought those and won
--Pickups too hot. I notice that these p/u's are hotter than the regular Lollars on my MIM p-bass. Right now, the heights from E to G are 5mm, 3.5mm, 3.5mm, 2.5mm. Unfortunately, thanks to our friend 'the raised A-pole', I can't take off anymore height without removing foam or routing the cavity.
--Strings are still new. I think I still have my older set of flats, might A-B it at some point just to hear the difference in tone.
EQ'ing the sound out is pretty straightforward, but I feel like I'm losing a bit of top-end information. Same deal with rolling the tone knob back. I guess this is what the combo is doing anyway.
Again, this is such a minor concern...it is absolutely playable!!! Just maybe not able to DI for the discerning mixing engineers of this world
