required six stitches .
:atoz:
... bitch .

Ditto, except mine was a coke bottle swung by the singer. He was ticked off because I was quitting the band.

Caught the tip of an ESP headstock right underneath my eyebrow.....didn't know the guitarist was right behind me, went to turn around and bang. Nice inch gash. 2nd song of the set. Played the rest of the set, dripping the whole time, soaking napkins between songs. No insurance, butterfly'd it up, you can barely see the scar today.

You guys just amaze me!! The only injuries I have ever sustained from playing have been RMI's from years of playing. Nobody has ever hit me or thrown anything at me and I have never fallen off stage or anything like that. I have seen literally hundreds of fights in bars that had no effect on me and I almost beat up a guitar player once but no punches were thrown. Apparently the last 40+ years of playing have been really boring or really lucky!!

I am enjoying this thread immensely but I hope everybody heals quickly.

I got a hernia while lifting my cabinet. I had to keep pushing it back in during gigs for a while and then needed surgey.

An injury that affected my playing was I cut the tip of my middle finger off my right hand at work and it had to sewn back on. Hurt like crazy and I could not play finger style for a while.

Two injuries.... one is ongoing, one was just silly..

Jumped off of a drum riser getting a little crazy, my knee hit my bass upwards very hard on the launch, and whacked me upside the forehead. It just about knocked me out..

The ongoing one is a torn achilles tendon. It first tore on my second east coast tour from jumping around. It hobbled me for months. When I was off the road, it healed, but it left quite a bump. It aches just about all the time now.. so I don't do much jumping around anymore :)

Actually on stage? I had a very active singer who liked to use the mic stand as a prop, and he decided to chuck it across the stage... Unfortunately, it was a small stage and he pegged me in the side of the head. I was pretty well dazed for the rest of the set, but still managed to play. Off stage at a gig? I broke my nose during the headliner's set. We opened for a fairly major national act, and the venue generously provided us with a cooler full of beer in addition to our pay, which I of course took full advantage of. During the headliners set, I was moshing and ran face first into my drummer's forehead. I spent the next half hour bleeding out over a trash can.

tore tendon in my fretting pinky...baseball or mallet finger the call it. Had to have it hyper-extended for a few weeks until the tendon healed, got back out 85% motion on it.

(not mine...but looked just like this)

Not on stage, but setting up:
A few years ago I hopped off the raised stage to grab more stuff to set up on the stage, and landed catching my right kneecap on the edge of a monitor.
Hurt like hell for a couple of days.

Just 2 1/2 weeks ago at work:
Dropped a CV axle on my left hand, smashing the tip of the ring finger of my fretting hand.
I'm just starting to be able to use it again.
Still can't play guitar except barre chords.

A few years ago at work: cut my right index finger badly requiring stitches, had to play that weekend, so I had to use a pick all night, but the darned stitches kept getting snagged in the E and A strings.

Well one time me at an exhibition band practice the whole band was really rawking out. So, during a guitar solo, I jumped up onto the drum kit behind me. During the end of the solo I went to jump back down and get to my mic in time. I dramatically leap off and go to thrash my bass like Pete Townsend. Well I bring down my bass and SLAM the bottom strap pin into my 'pair’.:bawl:

Was practicing by myself and went to pop the G-string. I pop it as hard as I could and the string came down onto my pinky. Broke half the nail off and cut the flesh below almost to the bone.

And one that’s almost unbelievable…

One time I went skateboarding and sliced up my forehead fairly bad. Well a couple days later I was jamming at a buddies house. His sister and her boyfriend happened to get in a heated argument in the same room. So he grabs her iphone and randomly hurls it across the room (unintentionally) at us. It hits me, and bust the scab on my forehead wide open. Hurt so bad I fell to floor still wearing my bass. Well the fireplace I happened to fall on was made of brick so the back of head struck that. It was kinda cool to bleeding from both the front and back of my head at the same time. So my friend comes back with some towels to help clean me up and a cold soda to help numb it some. He thought it would be really funny if he shook up the soda before handing it to me. When the pain starts to numb I open the soda, it sprays all over the place and into my cuts. Getting acid, albeit a weak one, into any cut really burns.

from some of these you guys sound like your lucky to be alive. I must be either lucky or boring cause the worst things that have happened to me was I broke the e minor string on an acoustic guitar tuning it and it slashed the back of my right hand, other than that i've poked myself a few times on the cut string ends.
