Owning two of the same bass

I'm the type of player that wants something different with every bass I buy, whether it's sound or brand, but I'm sitting on a little extra cash, enough to buy something different AND another one of the basses I already own and love (stingray).

I'm justifying it by saying I'll get one with a rosewood fretboard as I have one w/ maple.

I really can't tell you why I want another Stingray but I do. I just do.

What do you think? Is it worth buying the same bass twice?

If it's what you want then get it. There is nothing wrong with having two of the same bass whether it be for cosmetic differences, you just want a back up of what you already like, or whatever other reason you can imagine. It's your money, spend it on what you want.

I'd love to have a second SG in fireburst to go with my chocolate satin one.I know plenty of ppl with multiples of the same basses in different variations.Get what you want,even if its the same.

i have 2 of the same bass, matching ibanez rb885 5 strings. had one for years, wanted another in fretless. looked for several years for another that matched mine, finally found one. did the deed, and am pleased.

if you want it and can justify it, do it.

I have two fender PJ basses. A JP90 and a cowpoke. I also have a fretless franken P. I say go for it.

I wouldn't because I don't want two of the same bass. If you want two of the same bass, do it. The guitarist in the band I play with has 7 telecasters. Each one is ever so slightly different. Most are just a different color.

I have two Fender Highway One P-basses. They are even the same color.

Yes. I have multiple Thunderbirds, Precisions, Hamers, Kliras, EB3s, Cataldos etc. If you want another get it!

There's a lot of variety out there in sting rays AND the new neck through ones were announced...

I have two of the same basses:

I keep one tuned standard and one tuned down 1/2 step. Plus I can have the same EQ settings, so when I change basses, my rig and the FOH mix don't sound like crap because I switched to a bass that's totally different than the one the sound guy dialed in at the start of the gig...

I will probably always have 2 basses that are almost identical. Just seems like a good idea to me...

There was a time I owned at least ten Precisions at the same time. I'm down to five, and seldom play a Precision anymore, that's why my son, my daughter, and a buddy of mine are custodians of three of them now.

I think I'm down to about twelve Telecaster guitars these days. They're all a little different, and I like them all. A lot.

Heck yes its OK. I have 2 Wasburn 1981 SB-40 basses (one I bought when they came out and one I bought after 30 yrs looking for another), very rare basses so I'd buy every one I can find if possible..........absolutely wonderful players, my favorite bass of all time. But I have only come across about 7 in all these years looking.

If you really want to have fun with deciding - take yours to the music store and A-B them. You'll clearly hear the difference and feel great buying it!

YES! But I am SOOO not the guy to ask. But you asked, so YES. Here, follow me...Every one is made from a tree, every tree is different, CNC or not, each one feels different, each one weighs a different weight, etc. It's a bit of roulette. I never plug one in I'm looking at until I've played it "acoustically" for a while because it DOES matter IMHO. Pickups can be changed, but it's also about the wood.

So really, no 2 are the same. You are just buying something similar and familiar.

I think Rosewood + Flats would be enough of a difference to warrant having another of the same kind of bass. I'm actually strongly considering getting another P-bass so that I have :

1. Rosewood + Flats + Regular Bridge
2. Maple + Rounds + High Mass Bridge

.... and I swore that I'd never buy more than one P-bass.
