P bass Customization Options

Hey Talkbass. I am modding my all maple p bass (Body, neck, fret-board).

I was wondering if putting a Thunderbird type pickup in the spot where the current split pickup is would give me a good tone.

I'm going for a Krist Novoselic type of sound.

This video has exactly the sound I want.


Not too dry or woody, I want some more kick out of this bass.

The late John Entwistle's custom "Fenderbirds" sort of had what you want, Thunderbird pickups with a Fender maple neck.

You might want to check out Invalid Link Removed. It's a Bluesman Vintage Jazz with thunderbird style pickups. Not so much of a Precision, but it's got some of what you're looking for.

Im looking for just a single t bird pickup. Something to go in the position that the stock pickup is in.

Should work fine. If it's any consolation, that recording was made on a Gibson Ripper (two humbuckers).
