Yes, that and the way I pluck. I installed a piece of coathanger wire on mine to replace the thumb rest. It runs from about 2 inches from the end of the neck to about 2 inches from the bridge, parallel to the E string. My thumb might be found anywhere along there.
But you might not want to do that if your P is in good condition. Mine's an old beater, just a gig tool.
