P bass vigier or esh?

Hello talkbass fellas, I really want me a new bass and have 3 options in mind and cant decide what to choose. The options are a used vigier apege, a used esh impact or a new standart precision bass. All of them have graphite reinforced necks and all of them are in the price range of a 1000 $, my biggest concern about the two used ones is that they are basically upgraded jazz basses, and i already own 2 of these (ltd and modern player fender), so it probably is a smarter move to go with the p, any one has any experiene with any of the used bass guitars mentioned? Are they jazz like? Or do they have a sound of their own?

The impact was the entry model of the Esh line. I don't even think it sold for 1000 new.
A Sovereign or Stinger cost a lot more in the first place and rarely sell for more than 500-600.
The Vigier Arpege is still found in shops today and sells new for 4000.
It isn't very hard to see which is a better deal.

Are you a "set it and forget it" player? (basically, do use one predominate setting on everything) or do you "Swiss Army" basses and switch pickups for different voicings on different songs?

Answer that one for yourself first, then ask yourself:

1) Do I have a need to want similar basses as multiple back-ups of each other?

or

2) Do I have a need for basses that are physically different pickup configs to sound different because I basically set them each in one general way?

If answered earnestly, that should give you your answer that you seek for yourself :)

If none of these apply, then you are just GASsing to get another bass for no particular reason (which we all know is a perfectly acceptable reason in of itself  )

good luck :)

I had no idea Esh hit hard times but a quick google shows Musik Produktv are still selling Esh basses for up to 2000 Euros. I would have a hard time believing they are selling the same basses on Ebay for 300.

Esh · Bass Guitars Online Shop | Musik Produktiv
Yeah I may have over exaggerated a bit, but there was a various on eBay.de for like 3 or 350, no joke, and I just got it confirmed from Jason viebrooks a used to be Esh ondorser, he claims that Esh is in fact out of business and Musik produktiv is just carrying old stock.

Well...
Esh ist neither bankrupt nor out of business!

After Ralf Scholl (who successfully revived Esh in early 2000) gave up on the company, it´s now owned by Petr Vykydal from NBE, a factory in the czech republic who also build Clover, NS Design, Spector Europe and many other Brands.

I know for sure, because i bought two Stinger I from Esh in early and mid 2014 and still have contact with them from time to time since i´m a damn esh maniac ;)

Regarding the website:
NBE seems to have always been kinda lazy when it comes to their web presence....
Be it the nbe site, clover, esh....all last info is from 2014 or even earlier.
When esh-bass.com went down (and is now for sale it seems..) i contacted Petr and asked whats going on:

His answer:
the ESH brand is definitely not dying again! We had a problem with a virus on our web page several times and decided to shut it down. The original platform is no more supported by Joomla and we are working on the new webpage in WordPress.
It will take a few weeks!

Best regards

Petr

esh-bass.com will be relaunched on esh-bass.de in a few weeks/months as it seems

I´ll be glad to pass any kind of information regarding esh to you guys, since i collected many informations regarding esh and/or esh Instruments, starting with informations from the very beginning in 1987. I even have contact with one of the luthiers who worked for esh in the "old days", who restored my 1988 Esh Honest to perfect condition again.
I don´t check talkbass very often, but i already posted some stuff regarding esh here:

ESH bass club

and i also have many informations on esh running in a german bass forum, here:

ESH bass club

Esh is not dead :)
cya

Edit:

As for "Musik-Produktiv":
They´re not selling old stock or any leftovers, but were the first in Germany who sold the new Esh Basses built by NBE in CZ. Period. ;)
You can also see that by the slightly altered headstock design. I also know a guy who bought a Sovereign 5-String vom the new production quite recently, also with a slighty altered headstock. But you can still order Stingers I and II with the metal headstock...or even with the headstock from the older days

A few weeks/months after that, even THOMANN (our biggest Trader of Instruments here in Germany) is selling some esh basses again. You can even order a special edition of the Stinger II Model there...(cherry red)

Nice man, I'll look into it, thanks for the info, and as for the metal headstock piece it was added for extra sustain. Don't ask me how but that's what my source told me

yeah that´s what they advertised it for :D
i can asure you, it´s just for the Looks ;)

I have two almost identical Stinger I basses, one with the metal headstock and one with the "classic" one.
They have pretty much the same amount of sustain (which is plenty in both cases), but as for the metal headstock and better sustain.....well IF it does anything positive to the sustain, it´s probably just a scientific value ;)
But it does look nice in my opinion and you can use the headstock to hunt lazy guitarists on stage :D
