P-Bass VS Jazz Bass

I'm a jazz bass guy (look at my user name) but I got a road-worn P bass last year and its now my main axe for bar gigs, it has such a great neck and this punchy-thumpy sound to it. I now use my jazz bass for weddings and those events where I need a cleaner sound, also the jazz bass looks better with a tux

if it's purely aesthetics then i have to go with the P. but i could totally go with the J another day. hard question to answer, but today i'm liking the P's styling so thats how i voted!

Which design is better? Ergonomically, I'd say P bass. But personal preference says a PJ bass, jazz neck, P bass body and PJ pickups. So that would be best of both.

I am on the opposite side of the fence on this one..I really don't care for the P bass body style at all, but I love the J bass!!

Love the sound of both... prefer the Jazz neck, and Precision body (and pup). Just bought a P for the first time in 44 years of playing bass (started pro on a Jazz in 1976, and playing a Hag 10 yrs before that).

So, no clear answer... P bass w/ Jazz body...

why not design a bass with jazz pickups and p bass pickups in between and you can switch from p to j just by turning off a pickup?

Hasnt this already been done, i remember looking at one of the squier models that did that

I have a P-Plus ('92) which has split p/u plus jazz pick-up at the bridge. Also have a Jazz. P has maple finger board and Jazz has rosewood. Wouldn't part with either and neither one can provide all the sounds I can get from the both of them. Love 'em both.

I have convinced the wife that I am justified in owning so many basses because each has a different pup configuration(P,J,P/J,MM,J/MM,P/P,MM/MM),giving me the tonal coverage for any style/genre of music. She bought it.

That being said,I prefer my Jazz

I like both. I personally like the pbass better but if there is a j that sounds good and I like the neck (normally don't) then I won't complain.

I agree with Emma Peale ... um eagle moon (God that woman got me exited when that show was on).

P/J makes a great compromise...oh yes, and get rid of those damned frets too. P bass baby, good enough for Jamerson, good enough for me.
