P-Bass VS Jazz Bass

I have both. I first got a jazz (korea ?) that has great pickups and a nice thin neck. I prefer the P bass feel and my 5 string is an Amer. V P bass. Nothing to argue about. Get both and put them on stage together they'll get along fine.....

More a fan of the Jazz basses myself, although I'm a fan of a lot bassists who use the P-Bass as their weapon of choice.

OK---I refuse to cooperate with the authorities here! I love both the J and P sounds, depending on what my mood is and depending upon what type of music I'm playing. I am completely unable to make a "best choice" in that I love both equally, yet for different reasons. So there!...

If forced to choose I'd choose Jazz but I love em both.

I currently have two Js, two Ps, one PJ and one P with a fretless J neck.

I, by and large, prefer Jazz basses. Hence why I use one. A Jazz bass with a pre-amp, being used by a bassist who knows his gear, can get a LOT of different tones.

If I owned a fretted P-bass it'd be used for one very specific (but otherwise impossible to achieve) sound, maybe if I played in a punk band or something.

Or maybe I'd play my Jazz in a punk band just to be rebellious...

I like the Jazz Bass mainly because of the neck size. The P's feel like baseball bats plus you can get many different sounds from the 2 Jazz pups.

Most of the time I prefer the tone of a P-Bass, but the right Jazz with the right EQ'ing can sound even better. Design-wise I prefer Jazz basses.
