P/J Bass Sound

I think I'm a convert to the P/J sound. I played a Fender Precision Lyte today and was blown away by the tone. It's a little sweeter than the P bass... I think it's the extra "bite" from the J.

LOL, bought a Squier VM Jag Special, replaced the pups with Geezers, night and day... Wasn't bad before the switch, but it's tough to remember that after hearing how good the Geezers sound... It's not just different basses, it can be the same bass if you change pups, strings, etc. etc. I'm about 95% of the way to the tone in my head now, I think about 4% will be handled with EB Cobalts, the other 1% I suspect I could get to with a decent parametric eq. But I know me, and a parametric eq is more likely to move me farther from the tone in my head! So I'll just be content with 99%, assuming the cobalts do exactly what I expect them to do.

Hah... silly question...

You just nailed why I dig P/J's so much…lotsa "thump" with a dash of "growl" to spice things up! :headphone:
(…and now I'm hungry. Damn food-metaphor!)
