P pickup near MM sweetspot?

basses.jpg

My Aria RSB Standard has a P pickup close to the MM position. It's about 1 inch back, so the neck coil is where a P pickup's bridge coil would normally be, and the bridge coil is right in the MM sweet spot. Sounds awesome, a little punchier and more focused compared to a traditional P, and very responsive to where you pluck the string, so it can produce everything from Motown to Joe Dart's Ray sounds. I should mention that I changed the very dark sounding stock ceramic pickup to an AlNiCo5 vintage-style one from an FGN Neo Classic P, and I have flatwounds on it.

There are some more basses with P pickups closer to the bridge, many of them from Japan (e. g. by Vantage or Hondo). Also SD Curlee and their MIJ copies.
