P- pickup wiring?

Guys,
OK, this is a n00b question for sure but here goes: (also, mods, if this is in the wrong forum, please move it as appropriate)

On a standard, single-pickup P-bass, is the pickup wired in parallel or series and is it feasible to put in a series/parallel switch to allow for some tonal variation?
I have a frankenbass that has G&L humbuckers and there is a parallel/series switch that adds a nice variation to the tone so I'm wondering if that mod could be done to a P-bass seeing that its actually composed of 2 separate coils.

Yes, it's doable, seeing as there are four wires to interconnect - all over you have four combinations - in-phase series (standard), in-phase parallel (alternative) and their out-of-phase counterparts. The former two are definitely worth trying, the latter two produce a sound that's too thin and fragile.

OK, so series is the 'standard' wiring for a single pickup p-bass.

So this could really work then...
