Painting a bass

I'm thinking of buying a new sadowsky metroline in blue. They are willing to have it painted black by well known painter that would be professional. My question is would this bring down the resale value if I decide to sell it one day ?

If its done professionally I doubt it will affect the resale value. These are hardly rare collector items. Were this a pre CBS Fender it'd be another story entirely. That or if done poorly with a rattle can.

I'm not exactly sure what this means but I read it at the Metro station when the blue line train was going by and was deeply confused for a moment there. An oddly surreal experience. Anyway good luck with the bass.

I can't explain any better. Maybe you cant read fast so I should write slower....

Who are you buying it from? If it's painted new at the factory it would not affect the value. But Metroline doesn't really hold or increase in value. NYC on the other hand is a different story. IMO

Its not a factory pait job but its by someone who is really good.

Bottom line is, you'll be happier if it's the color you want. Paint it, enjoy it. If the paint job is well done this story has a happy ending.

If it were a Fender from the 50's, you might have a worry, but it's a modern mass production bass - it's a good bass, not a piece of history. Paint away.

Are you paying extra to get it painted ? If yes , then you will never get that money back but it will still sell for "used metro" price

This is true. I just want Black. If I was to order it it would be 12 months before I get in direct from Sadowski

There are plenty of other black, and very nice, basses in that price range. I'd shop around instead of paying extra and waiting.

Non I can find as light weight as a Sadowsky

How light are you looking to go? Sweetwater and Reverb will have excellent options with black finish in the 7lb to low 8lb range ready to go today. If you've got your eyes set on a unicorn weight-wise that'd be a different story.

Value wise it won't decrease the actual value but it might cause some pause on the part of buyers.

Painting blue to black should be criminal though.

It's not going to depreciate any more than another used Sadowsky Metroline. It's not like they're collectors items that people will chase the original color for.

Blue is the worst color they could ever put on a bass!!! But really we didn't care what color I went with, we were more focused on the weight.
