nvmnd: did a little more google sleuthing and found a couple pages that say:

bass = center@90 Hz
high = center@7kHz

which also suggests these are peaking filters (vs shelving).

this page says: "Doubling the internal operating current to 18 volts improves the dynamics and performance of the headphone amplifier."

can anyone confirm if that's true? and if so, does that mean the incoming voltage is automatically doubled, or is there switch or something?

Hello all,

I'm searching for a device that can connect the bass directly to the PA, but has a headphone out, so I can hear it with headphones at the same time, and doesn't have to be connect to a power socket.

Would the Palmer be a good choice for this?

I think it would work for that. You can even blend in monitor signal through the aux in (but you don't have a volume control for that built in )

What is "Bass Thru" jack for? I read on the Palmer official website "assignable with footswitch for silently tuning".
Is it the tuner-out? So is it possible to connect it directly to a tuner? or I don't understand what kind of connection they suggest

Hardware speaking is it silent?

Hey everyone, I'm considering buying the Palmer Pocket Amp Bass, couple of questions for live use if anyone has any comments:

I am planning no-amp (no other effects/preamp), just a passive piezo pick-up bass into the Palmer, DI out to PA, headphone out to earbuds for self monitoring (with an extension cable).

I am guessing if I fiddle with the volume for the earbuds, it will also be changing the DI out volume. So if I set it at an acceptable level on the earbuds (only bass on earbuds + sound bleed from stage monitors for others and more bass), is there a great chance the DI volume might be too high (or too low) to be normalized with PA mixer gain/padding?


Also can anyone comment on the Saturation control - is it an ok compressor just to squash high levels when you play with a harder attack? (As in it won't drastically change the sound, just to moderately even it out)

- yes that will work - I have a in-line headphone volume control, the phones output is really hot

- that depends on if you go pre or post out. If you go "pre" its strictly a Di with no effect of what the palmer is doing

- imagine the Saturation control does not exist. Not useful.

The palmer is small, convenient, runs on battery, has a usable overdrive. If you don't need battery operation there are some better options

Hi there, a newby here ;) Let me have my very first post regarding this device. I own Palmer Bass Pocket a few years, mostly using it as an headphone amplifier, however, currently I started to play in a band and this summer we are having a few gigs, where I´d like to use Palmer Bass Pocket in the PA. As I know, most of the PA mixers have global phantom power - and this seems to be a trouble for Palmer Pocket, as I got information directly from Palmer support that the Bass Pocket should not be used with a phantom power on! However it did not seem to me very persuasive, because quoting the guy... "The Palmer Pocketamp Bass is not suitable for use with phantom power. There are 2 capacitors with reversed polarity at the XLR output of the Pocketamp, which can be damaged if + 48V is used... If there are built in special capacitors they can be sure to use with phantom power, but it's not signed in the schematics completely - for that reason I can't recommend it now." That sounded to me as if they were not sure...

What do you think about it? Have you ever played it via PA with phantom power on? I swear I once used it with XLR input on my audio interface with phantom on accidentally, nothing happened, but after this warning I´d better not going to verify it again...:unsure:
