Palmer pocket amp bass

I found about it yesterday. It is quite appealing.
I want to get a preamp with DI, a tuner and a compressor. So I was looking at the GK Flex, but for about the same price I could get this Palmer pocket amp bass + a TC Spectra Comp and a TC Polytune mini. Now I just need to find out which of the 2 options will be better for my needs.

I was thinking about the same exact setup (also considering Zoom MS60B for tuner/comp/occasional cheesy effects). The tone quality will be key, I wonder what sacrifices have been made (if any) to achieve such an attractive price for so many features. It would be significantly cheaper than, let's say, MXR M80 (at least in Europe, at Thomann €205 vs. €160), while also being a headphone amp with aux in and a simple cab sim, so if the tone is comparable that would be a no-brainer for me really.

Plex is still in the game though, will just have to wait patiently for some more reviews for both :)

Yes, I will wait for some reviews of both. The key for making the decission now is knowing how they work and how they sound. Hopefully someone will start reviewing them as they hit the market.

There is one feature on this Palmer Bass Pocket Preamp that I can't really understand. Is the way that the FX loop is supposed to work. I can see only one insert for the FX, and below it it is written "tip - send" "ring - return". What is this supposed to mean? I need two inserts for my FX loops, one for the send and the other one for the return. I don´t get what they did on this unity.

Tip and ring are connections on a TRS cable (tip-ring-sleeve, a two-channel stereo cable, as opposed to standard tip-sleeve mono guitar cable). You would have to get a Y cable (insert cable), with stereo connector on one end (that end would go into the preamp), and two mono connectors on the other. One of the mono connectors into the input of the first effect in the chain (I don't remember which left/right channel is which, sorry - would have to look it up), the other into the output of the last effect. Something like this:

Thanks a lot for the info! I had no idea of those cables. Is good to learn something new.
This is the best part of communities like this, you can allways learn new things from nice people with more knowledge. :D

Cool. I've been eyeballing the Plex to use as my core bass tone and inserting my multi-fx pedal(s) for special effects and such. This seems to be an interesting alternative, less sexy, with fewer overall features, but at a much lower price point. Like the 4" x 4" footprint. Keeping my eye on this one.

Anyone else notice the odd placement of the input/thru/aux in/phones jacks? This almost begs for 90 degree connectors there, or, to use the pedal turned sideways so that the jacks aren't in the way when you engage/bypass the pedal. I guess that's the trade-off for the small footprint, and perhaps it's moot if the pedal is "always on", as might be the case in my setup.
