1. How much money are we talking about? That would help determine my decision.

2. If it's your money--and I assume it's in your possession--why even mention it to your parents? Just go buy the thing.

3. If you really don't absolutely need another bass, the idea of saving is definitely an option worth looking into.

I recommend saving it as well. I'm 20 years old and have owned 50+ basses in six years. Nowadays I've got only one bass, a few guitars floating around, and a nice car and a Harley Davidson.

When you're older, you'll need a car. Don't want to drive a POS, do you?

If you talked about your amp, I missed it skimming the thread, but I would say concentrate on getting a halfway decent amp if you don't have one already. I work with a lot of teenage musicians through my church, and equipment-wise, they are pretty much all lacking in the amp department more than the instrument department. All the kids I know have small practice amps, which just won't work in a band setting.

For 400 or 500 dollars, you can get a very decent entry level combo amp, like a GK backline or one of the smaller ampegs. I let the youth group use my GK backline 210 combo on sundays, and it's perfect for them... we have to be careful or the amp gets too loud, even with the drummer!

Eh...its kinda lame..

Its your money, You should be able to spend it..BUT...Your parents are teaching you how to make wise monetary choices. I was taught this at a young age when I couldn't buy ice cream becuase it was not a long term purchase and it only provided satisfaction for a brief period of time...

With my parents, I gove my mom the money and she lets me buy anything using her credit card. I work hard for the money, And everything I buy is for a long-term investment.

I say buy an amp and big ole cab.

A big +1 on the amp. You won't be getting a decent tone (or any kind of volume) with the amp currently you own. You've got a couple of good starter basses already. Easy to lust for new basses I know, but seems to me it might just be a passing feeling considering everything on your GAS list is amp related. Getting any of those would greatly improve the performance of your rig and allow you to play with a live band (thus easier to justify the spend to your parents). If I were your parents, I would buy that before another bass.

Getting another bass will do nothing for you, really...

Buy a big loud amp setup, but dont tell the parents.

Then crank it up full in the middle of the night, when they come through and shout at him, he could say "Well a new bass would have been quieter" :)

And q, if you really want a new bass, tell your parents that the ones you have now don't have enough strings and get a sixer. Although honestly, unless you're gigging, I don't think you need another bass. Just keep saving your money and get something really nice, like a Bongo. Yes, you want a Bongo. No, you don't think it looks like a toilet seat.

What's your budget? Any size limit? Sound preference?

For example you could go with a 2x10, or a 1x15 depending on what kind of sound you like to make. I used to think bass was 100% about lows and that 10s were lame, but right now I really only use 10s and 12s. But maybe you like 15s/18s, I don't know.

If you have a small budget I guess a 100 watt 2x10 or 1x15 combo amp would be a pretty reasonable upgrade from what you've got now. Used, you can get one pretty cheap. Actually I have a 100 watt Crate BFX or something 15" combo somewhere that I'd give you if you're local. But I don't want you hurting your back, it is REALLY freakin' heavy and doesn't have great handles to move it with.

If you have a bigger budget (like a lot of money) then you can go for a head/cab kinda deal.
