Buy Carvin used. That stuff is cheap. Look for one of the series one Redline amps. The pre's are tubes.

Still as a parent you have no say over how to spend your money until you get laid.

I'm 35 and I have one bass. I'll let you know when I get bored of it! (But don't hold your breath)

I like the higher-level Fenders. Stay away from the crappy Rumble Series, but the Bassman and Pro combos with Eminence speakers are great.

Hey I have a Rumble 100 and it's served me (and still does) pretty well. I couldn't beat the price.
