I could probably live with it. Problem is, I often play a bass for a year or so and then sell it to fund a different one (see my feedback). I'd probably need it repaired if I ever sold it.

That is enough for me to pass. I am the same way, would have to fix it to sell it.

The zipper in the loose-fitting gigbag? The seller swears it wasn't on there before shipping. He was pretty meticulous to photograph the other blemishes.

That damage seems like it would be visible in the standard pics included in most ads. Maybe not though?

If it was me it would be a hard NO.

It's a used Legend Custom. They're worth maybe $900 or $1000? It looks like it lost a fight with a zipper. I think you get him to take $50 off plus waive the shipping charges (even if it was "free" to you, it was included in the price) to bring it to maybe a $140 - $150 refund total which is 15% of the price. Personally I could live with it if it plays well and the neck is good, and I don't the think the resale is going to take that big a hit. My vote is ask for more money.

If it’s the zipper, you should be able to match the shape perfectly and also see some chips in the bag from the bare spots.

Personally I’d pass since you know you’ll probably sell it later.

Just for reference:

I bought a bass last month for $600 on Reverb. Seller paid UPS themselves to pack it, but it still showed up with a gnarly gash/chip on the bottom-rear area of the body. By Reverb policy, the seller pursued a damage claim with my photos of the box and bass. He got paid out $600 for the claim but wan't refunded for his cost of shipping. It was his right at that point to send a call tag, pay UPS local to me to box it up and ship it back to him; but we agreed on a $500 refund and I kept the bass.

I would not accept that level of damage for $50 unless there was already a significant discount applied to the front end of the deal. I would say $200 off what a similar undamaged example of the same bass sells for from a similar venue. The seller can make a shipping damage claim and fight that battle.

How was that thing shipped, loose in the back of the truck?

Trying to think of scenarios where a properly packed bass would receive that kind of repeated damage during shipping. Damage during shipping, in my mind, would be a cracked neck because of too much stress when the courier put the bass on the bottom of hundreds of pounds of boxes, or threw the box too hard... or maybe a single big dent from where something pointy and hard stabbed its way through the box & protective wrapping.

For that many dents, from the thigh-cutout, all the way to the strap peg? And they're not even all the same direction. Some are concave up, others concave down, others straight across. It's like it was hit by multiple objects multiple times over a long time period, and not the outside of other boxes. Some hard edges.

Unless you play it and it feels and sounds so wonderful that you're head over heels in love with how it plays and sounds, send it back. (And the fact that you're here asking this means you're probably not that in love with it.)

Hey TB, on the fence about this one. Received a used bass via Reverb, Spector Legend Custom. Plays great, BUT it has damage that supposedly happened during transit. Seller offered me a $50 refund to keep it. It had additional wear and a few chips in the neck, but this was not disclosed. See pics. Thoughts?

That?
If you bought the bass for 100 - 200...maybe. of it was any more than that, no.

Yes not knowing the Bass had a few marks after shipping would not make me happy either; but I would still keep the bass.
You say it plays well and sounds good, so what is the issue?

You keep it and your journey begins. You return it and nothing starts. This would bother me more than a few marks on the bass.
I do not have many regrets in my life but one of them started by sending something back that I should of held on to.
Enjoy your new Bass.

Thanks
Clayton
