Parting with my Ampeg 410hlf

Hi Guys,

After a year of constant struggle and frustration, I'm ready to part with my 410hlf. I've tried a couple of different amps, and numerous eq/pedal combinations. There's absolutely no saving my sound from the boom/mid-scoop of this cab. I'm playing a P through an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro. No matter what I do, I get nothing but boom and pick-attack. Now that I'm in the market for another 410, I'm wondering what others are using, or what you might suggest with the 4 Pro. I'm looking for tight lows, lots of punch, and plenty of midrange articulation. I can't go up to a full fridge, so I'd like to stick with a 410 for now. Please let me know. Thanks!

Good riddance.

I hate those Ampeg 4x10s and have owned 4 of them from different series before I finally figured it out.

I ended up going for the Barefaced Audio 69er. It's actually a 6x10 but weighs just around 50lbs (much less than any of the Ampegs I have) and is SUPER PORTABLE. I love the thing and it has finally ended my search for a bass cab. After how many thousands of dollars I don't even want to think.....

I have the 410HLF too and use it with both my SVT CL and MB LMII, and while it can get boomy, I havent sold it...yet. What I was going to do is get another 210AV to go with my first one and make a modular 410. Either that or get a Bergantino 410, but that is probably out of your price range.

That's funny I just switched into an Ampeg HLF 610. I've been running a Carvin 'red eye' 410. It was an 8 Ohm cab that when daisy chained with another hartke cab that I had (and since sold) it matched the 4 ohm output of my power amp which is when my rig sounded best. But during practice I was mismatched, running a 4 ohm output with my 8 ohm cab. I felt had to push a lot of watts to get it to cut through the mix (I have a 1000 watt pre/power setup). I really dig the Ampeg though. It's like a light has been shined on what I'm playing. Everything is more clear. Not that my Carvin cab was bad (I still have it), but I think there's something about matching the Ohms that allows me to play with louder with less power. So my question to you is how many ohms are your running with your head? Then I would start with a cab that matches your Ohms for the majority of your playing.

Right, so go check those places out. What is available there? I could tell you to buy a cab, but if its not actually available to you in your price range its not a helpful recommendation.

Oh yeah, definitely checking them out, just not much available right now. Hoping to hear from others that might have had similar experiences too. I appreciate it though, CL400Peavey

If you want "tight lows, lots of punch, and plenty of midrange articulation", the Bergantino HS410 is a great option. There's one on GC used site for $599 (they also show up here in the classifieds occasionally). And the 30-day return policy still applies, right?
Great cab, plenty of low mid content, pairs nicely with low-end-heavy amps, all kinda punchy
HS series was the best recording cab I ever owned. Plenty of live tone compliments, too.

I don't blame you OP I hate that cab. It is almost as bad as Ampeg's 610 cabinet.

As far as your description OP, Markbass would be a good suggestion. It fits your description perfectly. There are other options that do as well. If you could find an Epifani that would be my personal preference but they are slightly scooped so it might not be what you are after.
