As far as a utilitarian sort of instrument at a relatively inexpensive price point, remember the original (USA) SUB instruments? Everyone eventually figured out what a killer deal those were but while they were in production, a LOT of people griped about the finish and the painted necks and "Those aren't really Stingrays" and that sort of thing. And so as time passed and the new ones didn't exactly fly off the shelves, it became obvious that while it COULD be done, if the sales numbers didn't justify the effort, the instruments had to go. I'm pretty sure EBMM was losing money on each one, so it made no sense to continue.
