TruOil's a finish, that stuff is an unfinished oily wood treatment. They shouldn't be used interchangeably, or expected to be comparable.

The best fretboard oil I know if is this stuff called Fret Doctor: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (they also make fife bore oil).

A longtime friend of mine recently told me that, Patchouli, of all oils, is an excellent fretboard conditioner. Now I love the smell of the stuff, and it makes my skin mighty soft but, on a fretboard?

Does anyone know if this is accurate?

Well I've always liked it. But put a couple drops in my acoustic bass case and pretty much regret it. And much as I like it with it closed up it really smells when I open it up

I prefer to use Human oil. You apply it to the fretboard with your fingers. Been using it since I started playing bass many years ago.

Yeah, no. It may be a good fretboard conditioner, but, if someone tried to sell me a bass that smelled like that, I would have to pass. I can't stand the smell of the stuff. My old percussionist showered at my house one day, and put on patchouli afterwards. It took a week to get the stink out of the house.

I love the faint smell of patchouli, and I've been rubbing in a dab here and there on my person for decades. After it mellows out, it's not so bad, some people are crazy for it like catnip to a cat, and its actually the foundation for a lot of popular perfumes and colognes.

Yup. 2 of my go to scents have delicious dirty patchouli as a base note. My wife is VERY particular about clean smelling things, and she always smells up on me constantly when I wear them.
