Well I don't have MTV for a start, I don't really watch TV much either, or lsiten to the radio........and I bet no other 15 year old on this board has heard of Runrig....
Meh, we're just teasing you. But if you like Slipknot, you may like some of the bands that the Reverend has mentionned. But they don't wear masks.

O ok, I just thought you were saying Slipknot weren't heavy, which isn't true, they are heavy, but there are other bands that are as heavy, but i doubt heavier...

Listen to any of the bands that were mentioned.... Carcass, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, etc etc etc. NOT pantera, metallica, etc as those bands ARE on MTV/radio and do not represent the full spectrum of metal out there. Don't put up your blinders just because someone disagrees with you, there's a reason and if you REALLY want to listen to the heaviest band in the world then you'll need to greatly expand your playlist.
I'm sticking with slipknot thanks, they're heavy...if it gets much ehavier it'll make my ear drums explode.

I think the excessive members is more a problem than the mask. They are a poor man's Gwar when it comes to that, and it Gwar doesn't ALWAYS have extra people on stage unless it affects the "storyline."

But technical ability as we've discovered, doesn't sell albums. People want to be able to bang their fist to snaresnaresnaresnaresnaresnaresnaresnaresnare. 4/4 simplicity sells. People can't most in 11/16, right Ben?

Just to hit the original topic, I beleive Slipknot's bass player downtunes his bass to match the guitarists, who downtune their six-string guitars instead of buying sevens because, according to them, that makes their music heavier.

Slipknot could have been a brutally heavy, cool band. They had the potential to make some of the most mindblowing metal EVER. Instead, they dumbed it down at the insistence of Rick Rubin. You want heavy? Go out and get Meshuggah's new EP, "I". It WILL make your eardrums explode, I guarantee it.
My definition of heavy? Ministry, dude. Ministry.
I will give Slipknot the title of heaviest mainstream band I've ever heard. Well... that is going right now. The 90s alt metal scene was popular for a while. Ministry hit it big with N.W.O. and Pantera had Walk, that's some heavy mainstream. Some Slipknot is death metal though, and you don't think of death metal as pop music.

Edit- Keeping in line with Meshuggah, I fell I should mention Aussie metalers Devolved.
Whoever it was who said '4/4 sells' Joey is one of the best drummers ever, dont even try to tell me he isnt. His beats are insane, he's incredible. Definetly the star of a highly talented band.....and they are talented, if you haven't heard the guitar solos on Volume 3, I suggest you take a listen, that proves the guitarists can also play very well.
