Paul McCartney vs Gene Simmons

McCartney:

Funny, creative, talented, whimsical; one of the all time greatest names in the history of rock and roll.

Simmons:

Attention whore with a very small degree of musical talent he managed to market very well.

Terrible actor; annoying media personality; decent/good bass player; mediocre singer; terrible songwriter, with a willingness to sell on hooks alone.
Whatever. I think a lot of his songs are awesome. And I wouldn't want him to be the only lead singer but he sings pretty decent.

Really? I would have thought that test of who is the better business man is about who has made the more money. Don't know for sure but I would be astonished if Gene has more in the bank than Paul.

Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears more than likely have more money than Gene also, but that speaks absolutely nothing about their business skills.

Put me in a band like the Beatles and give me the solo career Macca's had for the past 40 years and I will have more money than Gene too - with a fraction of the business acumen.

Kinda always thought Kiss was weak, but that Going Blind tune is a cool bassline and a fun tune. Also can't imagine singing and playing a line like that at the same time. If I'm not pounding out 8ths my generally decent voice becomes much worse than what Genre put out.

I enjoy KISS a lot more. I have listened to just about every Beatles album and I only go back and listen to a handful of their tunes. People tend to focus on everything about Gene Simmons except his bass playing. I'd put the song Black Diamond up against anything by the Beatles. But that's just me.

And if Macca could breathe fire, spit blood, and fly, all while wearing 7" platforms, then he would be better! :ninja:

KISS was a "spectacle act". Their music IMHO has the lasting value of particle board furniture purchased at K-mart.
Now their lunchboxes, on the other hand, will be sought after on E-bay into the foreseeable future!

My 3 cents - You can tell Gene was completely inspired by Paul Mc. The bass line for "Rock and Roll All Night", is clearly a McCartney inspired line. The same would go for "Nothing To Lose". Can Gene give it up on his own? Surely - The bass line to "Detroit Rock City" on the Alive II album is a crushing piece of bass work.

McCartney is easily the better bassist - Then again, who know what Gene can actually play out of his Dragon Warrior suit and stacked heels? Paul Stanley was the better songwriter in the band. That shows in their 80s solo works. All of that being written, there are few other bass players that I wanted to SEE growing up. :-)
