To suggest that the Backstreet Boys have had as great an impact on popular music as The Beatles have... I'm just lost for words!

Well maybe not as much but they still made a great impact on modern pop music.

And none of us are saying that! Geez, will you read what I say, Coypu? No-one said it was useless, in fact I distinctly recall saying theory is useful.

McCartney had the tools he needed to come up with those great bass parts. Period.

Well I have enough math skill to get my grades but it doesn't make me a great matematician.

There you go again. Snobbery, and stating opinions as facts. Maybe it's just that you don't get most popular music?

No I probably don't get popular music. But since you seem to be heavily into it I shall ask you if you consider Britney Spears to be up there with beatles? Both sold alot of records and they did what they do very well.

What? I've never heard anything by Anal **** - and no, just because it's a band name, you CAN'T say it on TB.

Well they are highly influencial and popular, I'm suprised that you haven't heard them! They have released over 300 songs sofar.
Here is a song with completely harmless lyrics :
Link Removed If you like simple music then this is for you.

C.unt but I like Anal Blast aswell. I don't listen to Dimmu but I like some Emperor and I love Death. Probably, he wasn't good anymore, it is pretty obvious when you listen to SFU.

oh man you don't like six feet? I think they are a lot more fun to listen to then cannibal. and Chris doesn't have that weird Poser thing going for him like Corpse Grinder does. Yeah AC I've heard of them. Not a big fan but they do what they do well. I really Like White Zombie a lot so I need some of that kinda influence into whatever metal I listen to. You seem to listen to some ok stuff. Better then Meshuggah. They don't write music they analog sequence it.

Either way none of this bands would exist with out the beatles:)

Do you listen to Jamerson?

No, SFU are just plain bad. Ok some songs aren't that bad but some are very bad. What poser thing are you refering too?

To point it out, my favorite bands are not AC or Anal Blast, I like them but I'm more into bands like Cynic, Atheist, Suffocation, Gorguts and such.

Beatles wouldn't exist if it wasn't for glenn gould so it depends on your view.

I can't say I do, name song songs I should check out.

Coypu, Coypu, Coypu,

Where does one start?
The Beatles followed their own path and were indeed true to their selves. By 1965 They made paths, not follow them. Who ever used Sitar's in anglo music before the Beatles? Who ever used a Calliope before these boys? Back Masking? If you ever delighted to the sounds of Ravi Shankar you can thank the Beatles for exposing us to him.

Comparing the Backstreet Boys to the Beatles demonstrates your lack of history. I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, I witnessed how they shook things up. The Backstreet Boys will probably soon be forgotten, and yet thirty years later we are still talking about the Beatles. Again, the Beatles moved alot of people with their music. Not too many people over 21 are buying Backstreet Boy's cd's. However the Beatles sell across all generational lines. Don't know that we'll be hearing 'breakfast with the Backstreet Boys" anytime soon on your local radio.

They're cultural influence was so great that J.Edgar Hoover had Lennon watched and tried to deport him out of fear of his influence.

As far as digging outside the common stuff, I listen to everything dude. You should too. Something being popular does not make it irrelevent. I have Beethoven, Brahams, Mussorgsky, Dvorak, Shostakovich. I have Miles, Coltrane, Satchmo, Django, Weather Report. I have George Jones, Patsy, Willie, Johhny Cash. I have Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant. I have Zappa, Capt. Beefheart, Velvet Underground, Violent Femmes. I have PFunk, James Brown, Sly Stone. I have the Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks. I have some real obscure stuff and some real popular stuff from DaDa to Folk.
See the difference between you and I, is I try and look for the merit, not dispute it. I try and see and hear what it is others are getting turned on by. Yeah, I don't always get it, but I sure as hell try. I'm personally missing the Grateful Dead Gene, but I have alot of respect for Jerry Garcia and crew. They have really moved alot of people, they have created an entire sub culture. How can I possibly discount that? I WANT to get it!
I did not discount speed and theory. I said that speed is only one small tool in the tool box. I said play like your making love to a woman. If all you are about is Theory be a mathametician. Music should be Emotive. Simplicity does not imply lack of skill. Some of the greatest Sax players were very simple in their approach, Lester Young, Ben Webster and Paul Desmond come to mind. It was their feel, their expression. Carlos Santana is also a fine example. Get some Muddy Waters records.
As far as influence goes, No other Pop artist has been re-recorded by Jazz players as much as the Beatles. You can do the research on this if you'd like. Start off with George Bensons "The other side of Abbey Road" George can play as fast as anyone and has all the Jazz theory you can throw a stick at. He also has soul and he appreciated what the fab 4 brought to the table. Listen to Jaco's rendition of Blackbird, tell me the melody isn't superb. I'll bet Janne Schaffer (Leading Swede Jazz and Pop Guitarist) was influenced by the Beatles.
Many have tried to re-create and emulate the Beatles. None have come close. So I guess it ain't all that EASY to write a Beatles tune? I'd love to hear you try. If writing a clever pop tune is so simple and requires little skill or creativity than why don't you write one and sell 20 million cd's and then you can make all the speed theory music you'd ever want to make, hell you'll have the cash to produce and promote it. Up to the challenge? The Beatles had 27 number one hit's. TWENTY SEVEN!!! To dismiss Paul's influence is just sheer ignorance. But then ignorance is bliss.

By the way I find the Heil Hitler comment incredibly offensive. A swede should be more sensitive to this considering your countrys well documented history with Nazi Germany. There wern't too many Wallenbergs if you know what I mean. Maybe this too was said out of ignorance.
Peace
