PBASS Noise Concerns...

Hey guys I am just wondering if it is normal for a pbass to go from no hum/buzz with the tone knob all the way down and then when the tone knob is turned up to have some hum/buzz? Also with the tone controls turned up and i touch the magnet poles on the pickups this noise increase? By the way if i touch the strings or bridge or anything metal on the guitar the noise decreases whenever it is present. thanks!

A P bass should be very quiet and noise free no matter where the tone knob is. Mine certainly is. You may have a problem with yours if it's noisy, or it could be your instrument cable, effects pedals if you use them, or your amp or even the room you're playing in. So you should check all these things out until you isolate the source of the noise. But from what you describe, it sounds like you might have a ground problem in your bass. Check to see that the grounding wire mounted under the bridge is actually still attached and making good contact with the bottom of the bridge. That's where I'd start. If that's not the cause, then look at the wiring in your bass to see if it's standard.
