PDA's, are they worth it?

I have a Palm Tungsten E and I love it. Plays MP3's MPG's, can view JPGS, MS Office docs. I sync it with Outlook so I have my calendar, keep track of Band stuff, all my passwords etc etc. I would be lost without it. Saving up for a Treo 650, now that really rocks!! :cool:

The VII was the big thing when I got my Vx. The Vx just made more sense. Rechargable battery, backlit when needed, much smaller than the VII. I think I've used less than 2MB of the 8MB available even after all this time.

For music I'm using a 20GB iPod. Makes the crappy Bose system in my car sound amazingly better.

I had a VIIx. Loved it for the wireless feature, but as you say, it ate batteries big time. Now I have a Blackberry through my job that also doubles as my "work" cellphone. It does a good job of handling my schedule, email, phone, and contact list. One of the cooler features is if someone sends me an email that has a phone number in it, I can click on the phone number and it calls it.

When I replaced my Palm VIIx, I replaced it with a Compaq iPAQ. I still use that as my "personal" PDA. The Blackberry is almost exclusively "business" stuff. I use the Compaq for "honey-do's" and for keeping track of my kids' busy social lives. Lotsa parties to go to when you're in 2nd grade. One of the coolest features of my iPAQ is that I have a Navman GPS sleeve for it. I used it to navigate my drive from Detroit to Hilton Head Island. I also use it around town to navigate to addresses I'm not familiar with (like homes where 2nd graders have parties) and to get the best routes to places I thought I was familiar with.

I also have numerous song lists, lyrics, spreadsheets pictures, and just stuff in it. Oh, and one slammin' Monopoly game. It's a great little PDA.

I had a Handspring Visor that I thought would be good for taking notes in class. But the stylus input was too unwieldy and the keyboards were too expensive. So I mainly used mine for playing games. Now it just collects dust. Although I gave it to my dad to use for some scanning applications at his work...

But the idea of using it as an organizer is moot for me, I'm the kind of person to forget to read reminder notes...

I could never find a paper-based organizer that worked for me. They all seemed to be made for right-handers ;)

I just got the new iPAQ/T-Mobile PDA/Phone to replace the old one I had. This one has integrated WiFi and Bluetooth. Plus, having the phone and PDA integrated works great for me. I was also never crazy about the Palm operating system. Windows works best for me and the files I need.
