Hey all, it's been a while. Since there's no Seattle GTG this year I'd really like to find a suitable venue in or around Portland. But if that's not happening I will just procure a venue out here in The Gorge again, as I've done several times in the past. So for now I'd like to spitball best dates and canvas venue suggestions. All of the GTGs I've hosted have been free, but I'm open to the idea of this one having a nominal admission charge if that's what it takes to get it in town rather than out here.

So vote early and vote often. PMs are welcome for venue ideas if you don't want to take it public. And as always, I'm all ears on what sort of format you all might prefer. We've had a secondary "quiet room" at some and I'd consider that a big bonus.

Current distance to Portland, ME: ~110 mi
Current distance to Portland, OR: ~ 3,110 mi
Delta Portland: ~ 3,000mi

In spite of the great distance to OR, it is one of my old stomping grounds and I've pals still there. This is really a seductive idea, particularly if you would have a Masshole such as myself.

I went to one in Rhode Island and would again, so why not?

I’m not an especially sociable sort and my musical skills are rapidly eroding but a bass-related GTG in October in/near the C.R. Gorge sounds appealing. I’d be on my good behavior and I’m up for feeding the tip jar should that work to give us a suitable venue. I seem to recall reading that Corbett may have something so I’ll ask around. What size space are we likely to need?

If it's that near Portland I'd figure on maybe 50-60 people and enough room for at least 25-30 full amp rigs. But if a smaller space is really compelling we could definitely just make do with less amp gear.

Cool! I’ll start inquiring to see if anyone in my lopsided circle has suggestions.

Thanks much. I tried to hook something up at Mount Hood CC one time, might be worth looking into that again. One year we managed to finagle a couple of rooms in an elementary school near SE Powell (I think) and that worked out great.

Subbed to the thread. Voted 10/20 & 27 as I may be traveling early October. If we get date certain soon, I’ll adjust my travel plan. Will being SA C4 and probably Spectrum by then. Also Marco N1 P... love this one.

CE we know the CIO at Mt Hood CC. Maybe she can pull some strings for us.
Let me know if you want me to pull that thread. We can also tap Jay Lawhon, Gresham based sound guy and see if he knows of a suitable space.

For anyone PA interested, I can demo linked Soundcraft UI-24r mixers with SM2 TLC. These things are next level in the low pro market.

Thanks Mal. By all means play those cards and assume one of your preferred dates, please. I've been planning on starting in on my own venue search next week (I was going to hit up Nathan Rose for starters), but it would be great if I don't have to.

Hey I’m down, maybe can help finding a venue. Hood River Saloon or other music friendly place might put up with us for a daytime event.

Anyway, DM me and we’ll exchange phone numbers.

PM sent.

The River City Saloon is a sports bar by day on the weekends and football season has never worked for GTGs there in the past for that reason. I still haven't had a chance to pitch this to other venues in the Gorge (maybe tonight though), but I really really want the GTG to be in Portland, in all honesty.

Portland would be great. I could definitely see taking the train down from Seattle with some smaller gear, if not driving!
