Hey guys, very interesting thread. Too interesting to not practice some thread necromancy on it.
I 've been wanting to buy a 1x12" bass cab for a while. Primarily because I do not have a bass cab yet. I already have a TC Electronic 250W@4Ohms head. An interesting factor is that when it is not used for home practice, I was planning to use it as something like a subwoofer for the music I listen to.
I already have a subwoofer amp with a low pass filter etc. etc. I have done some reading here on TB about "cab as sub", and I 've come to realize that bass cabs are not subwoofers as their frequency response is much wider. But I 've also come to realize that I don't want a subwoofer, something to boost the super lows. I 'd like something like a bass enhancer so to speak, something more expressive that will blend more into my main speakers. That being said, the following quotes are very interesting:
These are the first bass cabs that actually sound good with music playing through them.
The Eden cab is a bust. No bottom end, very middy. The peavey is exactly opposite. It's almost like a sub.
So up to now I have been considering a much more expensive cab for purchase (Eich Amplification 112-XS8) but this offer from Peavey seems very appealing with less than half the price. Interestingly, it is nowhere to be found on the Peavey website so I'm assuming whatever items are on offer online at the moment could be the last few pieces of this model.
A short comment on the aforementioned comparison with the Eden EX112. From a description of the product: "Using an Eden designed whizzer cone Eden has eliminated the need for a separate tweeter allowing a super compact design whilst retaining an exceptionally wide frequency response." So apparently, without a tweeter, they have made the main driver with a much flatter frequency response, therefore the tendency of the cab to sound "middy".
This is more a comment than a question for something specific, but feel free to comment on anything I wrote. Happy holidays and wishes for a more normal new year to all.
