Peavey 1810 (what the heck is that?)

Hey guys, I recently acquired a Peavey 1810 and I have an Ampeg SVT 7 Pro. Would these be a good match? I'm a drummer mainly and I've ventured into the bass world. Just seeing what works and what doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks dudes.
Well Casey you really have revived an old ghost thread loll..Not sure about the Ampeg so i'm sure the experts will chime in on that soon, but i've run a Peavey 1820 cab (identical to the earler 1810 cab) since the mid 80's to a few years ago when my spine issues caused me to use lighter rigs. The cab is a great piece of gear..it is divided into 2 halves within the same cab..top half for the 2x10's and bottom half for the BW 18...the 1x18" Black Widow driver is in the bottom and in the seperate top half of the cab are the 2x10" Scorpions. I matched my cab with the head that was meant to go with it..the Peavey MKIV..which put out 210w into the 4 ohm cab. The rig was extremely loud and powerful which suited me running the 5 string Peavey dynabass..the clarity of the 2x10s and thunderous punch from the BW 18 was wonderful.
The 1810s also had the same speaker compliment as the 1820. (1x18BW 2x10 Scorpions). The difference was about an additional two and a half inches of vertical space in the 1820's low end partition, so the 1810 is a very slighly smaller cab. The weight was listed as 122 lbs SO THEY ARE HEAVY.
Overall a magnificent cab. Hopefully the Ampeg experts should be able to tell you if it suits the PV 1810 cab.

I appreciate the quickness of your reply. It sounds (literally and figuratively) like they might be a good match. Im excited to try them out together. Since the cab has the bi-amp feature, I'm wondering if it would be better to run 2 speakers cables from the head into each of the 'Hi' and 'Low' bi-amp inputs or just 1 cable directly into the 'Full Range'.
I hope our Ampeg guys chime in soon.

I had the little brother 1516 (1×15" +2×8") which was rated 400W 4ohm in 'full range' mode using the internal cross-over. but I think that was peak. RMS probably was 200. IIRC the 1820 was similar rating, although probably louder due to extra cone size. They both weighed a ton!
I ran mine Full Range for about 30 years without a problem although the MKIV head had a speaker protection limiter which compressed the sound (Peavey DDT Compression) if the DDT light came on through excess volume.
I played very loud during the 80's and that Peavey MKIV compression likely saved my speakers from damage and even when the compression circuitry activated I still had plenty of volume pumping out blowing through my pants legs lolll

As mentioned these are HEAVY BEASTS to move but did sound pretty good with the Black Widow 18 and the two Scorpion 10's. I used to run mine, which was the 1820 version, with a 84 SUNN Coliseum 300 head to drive the 18, and then a SUNN concert bass from the late 60's /early 70's head which had a bad preamp section. I used the power amp section to biamp highs to the two 10s using the x-over built into the Coliseum head. It actually was a really nice sounding amp. And would definitely move some air. I always got compliments on the tone from that rig. That model of SUNN Coliseum was swan song for SUNN as Fender took over in 85 and then good bye SUNN.

Very nice. I think I'm going to run it through a compressor of some sort but I'm not sure which one (although the SVT 7 Pro is fairly compressed already).
At least you had some good air flow to coolin off your cojones lmao

I remember those. Most people ran them full range with a PV Mark IV head. I do remember one setup in a music store with a Preamp w/xover into a PV CS400 and it sounded pretty awesome. PV made some very interesting stuff back in those days. Not like today.
Use one cable, directly into the 'Full Range' input, unless you're using an active crossover or an amp with bi-amp output that is capable of being set to a very low crossover point, like 100 - 150 Hz. (You don't, so just use everything full range.)
Well the Ampeg SVT 7 Pro delivers up to 1000 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms, the Peavey is rated 200Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms. You have to be really careful not to blow the speakers with too much low end.

I'll be sure not to crank the low end and use full range. Eventually, I'd like to get a different cab but for now, I'll be mindful. I'm excited to play it live. I'm running a Sans Amp Bass DI pedal with it and it sounds phenomenal. It's like taking an adolescent bass tone and instantly sending it right past puberty into full maturity.
