I do not give Peavey any $$$. This is not the company of old, unfortunatly. Current owner is an ass.
But the right choice is play some basses. Find on that feels good, then buy used.

No brainer to me... Though I haven't owned a Fury, I have owned about 15-20 different Peavey USA basses. There are $75 Peavey Foundations that I've owned that I opted to play at events over USA Fenders, Rics, G&Ls and Musicmans. If only because they sounded great, played fantastic, (and to be honest, didn't care if I sweat all over them)
USA Peaveys are going up in value. Typically... great basses.

US Peavey? Absolutely a stageworthy, well-made American instrument. Carpe Peavum.

I have a US Foundation that I LOVE. But actually I totally think this choice could go either way.
The Peavey has a potential for greatness that is fairly high, but many of these need some work on the frets/electronics/nut. If it's not a USA Peavey, then either looks will matter to the OP or the two basses are more equally matched.
On the other hand, the Squier has less potential for greatness, but I think a very high potential for goodness. Sight unseen, I'd actually go for the Squier. Only internet sighted, I'd look very carefully and I still might pick the Squier. In person, I think you wouldn't be asking because one of them would just be jumping out at you based on feel.

(I just bought a foundation for 20 bucks 2 weeks ago... wiring fixed, truss rod adjusted, gigged with it the same week. and it came with a hard case)
By the way, those that are leaning towards the squier... IMO, it whould be known as an affinity, as opposed to a squier... there's a difference.
There shouldn’t even be a question here, the Peavey is far superior in every way.
The affinity series was actually the cheapest line of Squiers, it was recently replaced by the Sonic series. Something that never gets mentioned here is that they have slightly thinner bodies than their corresponding Squier or Fender models. This could be seen as a cost cutting measure, or it could be seen as an advantage for people looking for light basses. I had an affinity strat and I thought the thinner body was cool. But if I were buying basses I might be worried about increased chance of neck dive which is a deal breaker for me.

I have seen a lot more problems with Squier Affinity Series than with Peavey Fury.
I love vintage Peaveys. I have 4. But If you need this thing up and running immediately, an online bass might not be the best option, especially a vintage one. Try to find one locally that you can play.

Yep, I played Peavey exclusively for the first few years I played out. I never had a Fury but I had a Foundation then several DynaBasses, the last one being a fiver. If they were still made in the US I would most likely still be playing them. Back then they were much maligned by the Fender studs, but I never found a speck of fly poopie on any of my Peavey basses.

Thanks for all the feedback! It was helpful, I decided that online was risky, especially because I needed the bass yesterday.
So I landed on this for $250 CAD so right within my budget. It's not precision bass but it will get me by for a while until I have enough to buy one.
