Peavey Fury Bass or Squier Affinity?

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all the feedback! It was helpful, I decided that online was risky, especially because I needed the bass yesterday.

So I landed on this for $250 CAD so right within my budget. It's not precision bass but it will get me by for a while until I have enough to buy one.

Of the 3 I’d buy this one too, love the color.

Go with the Fury, the build quality is far superior. I own a second generation Fury and I can honestly say it is one of my favorite players. It will also hold its value much better than the Affinity series.

I think you made a great choice. I have two Furys, and you'll notice they go for less than many of the other American Peaveys. I think it's because Peavey began cost cutting with the Fury, and as I understand, some of them were made mostly in Korea, then shipped to the US for assembly. Many have one piece instead of the more common two-piece necks, and they're not great. At any rate, it looks like you've done well. Enjoy!

A Fury is, what, 25-30 years old now, or more? You’re not rewarding Hartley by buying a Fury today.

You “landed” on a Squier Classic Vibe J?
That is one hellova landing lol. That is a Crafted in China and such a great bass!
I have of couple of those and you are in for a treat, far, far better than either of the basses you were looking at, if you want that P-bass-ish sound just solo the neck pickup but what a score! I just set mine down they’re such great players…Congrats and enjoy your new jazz bass.

I have a Squier CV60 P which I think is a very nice bass but if someone wanted to straight trade me a 1980s USA Peavey Fury for it, I'd do it without hesitation

As others said, if you want the p bass sound out of this jazz bass, use the neck pickup only and put the tone at 50%, your audience won’t hear the difference.

I have been playing bass since I was 14 years old but lost interested after moving away and now getting back into it.

I need to buy a new bass with a very tight budget. My option are a Squier Affinity PJ bass for $200 CAD or Peavey Fury for $250 CAD.

I cannot try both as they are both being sold online. Right now that's all I can afford and I need the bass asap as my friends band wants to me try out for them.

Definitely the Peavey. If you can ask the seller if the neck is solid, and they don't lie, they're amazing. Mine is a 90's, stock, sounds amazing, though it needs a truss rod adjust every month or so.

Thanks for the tip, it's close enough and now I can focus on learning the songs and practicing my jamming instead of frantically trying to find a p bass.
