Peavey Fury II - Opinions?

Hey everyone,
Sorry, the search function threw out the "II", so all the results were for the original Fury. I have the opportunity to pick up a Fury II cheaply. I'll play it myself before I do, but the drive is well out of the way, and I just wanted to get some opinions on the overall quality of this bass. Where does it stack up in the vague low-end, mid-level, and high-end bass rating scale? These were originally over $300, but I assume there's a reason for it being under $100 now. For previous or current owners, what do you think of it?

They where pretty good basses back then. Peavey has a long history of making very good basses and amps. Among the most reliable stuff ever made. But theyve never held high resale value. Peavey basses and amps was pretty much the standard band room gear in most highschools and below. So it had this kinda stigma of "uhh, its nice but Id like better then what they provide at school, u know, something kewl like fender, gibson, rickenbacker, or alembic....." So resale value was low. After all, every few yrs the schools would sell off their current Peavey Stock at low price since Peavey bassicaly provided all the schools with practically free gear.

But yeah, Peavey fury II's a good bass. If the one your concidering is in very good to excellent condition, is worth checking out since your interested in it allready.

The Fury II, IV and VI were made in Korea. They're well made basses. They come with VLF pickups and 3 band EQ's - boost only, though. I've owned all three models and find them a great value. At $100, I'd jump on them all day long.

Yeah, I've slowly been realizing this about Peveys. In addition to this Fury II, I've found a Patriot (USA) that played so well I double checked the headstock ;). It was easily on par with USA Fenders that I had tried recently - and it hadn't been setup yet, haha. I realized I had always given Peavey a bad rap because I associated them with Yamahas and other intro basses. Peaveys are amazing basses, and especially for the price point!

The Fury II that I found looks like it really hasn't been touched from the photo I got. So I guess I'll drive down and give it a test drive myself!

Yeah, I was a little skeptical when I realized that it was an import bass, but I'm glad it plays well. The active pickup is what drew me in, since I've never owned an active bass and I wanted to see what they were all about. I'm liking the thin, fast neck prospect. I have a MIM Jazz, and if this can keep somewhat on par with that, then it'll be an awesome player.

In my experience, import basses have been hit or miss, so I'm glad to hear that these are well made. The VLF pickup sounds intriguing - it gets pretty rave reviews over in this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13658. After hearing how awesome the old super ferrite pickups are, I'm excited to check out another proprietary Peavey pickup. Sounds like it'd be silly not to pick this up for the price I found ;).

Maybe a little late to add my $0.02. Fury II has been my main ax since '98. It's actually in the shop now for a fret dress. It has served me very well, survived a roll over car accident, traveled the country coast to coast, and traveled the Atlantic from the Baltic to the Caribbean. I've gotten many compliments on the sound over the years. Defiantly snag it if you haven't already.
