The audio would skip out for a split second every time you played a note.

I think the overload protection is great on this amp. I may be biased. I don't endorse doing this, but you can short the output at full power and it will do the same thing, the audio will skip out for a split second and then come back.

Conversely a casual comment about exceeding the minimum impedance of an amp is VERY harmful IMO(opinions arent expected to be shared).

The folks that don't know any better can't read into a simple question to understand the inherent risk in this.

As a community we should be working together to keep everybody grooving which includes educating people about correct practices.

Just a question. Some amps will shut down and some are more tolerant. Not a big discussion, just curious.

I've owned the d800, mb800 and magellan 800. The mb800 had the best feel, the magellan the best eq and the mesa had the most slam but, none really "did it for me" compared to my carvin 3800lx and svpcl preamp.

I get the feeling that I would probably get the best eq from the mini mega along with great slam but, the pre itself would probably be a little solid state. I found the mesa to be very solid state and the magellan a little less.

I think you could use the svpcl with a Peavey Headliner 1000 & get down to a 2-space rack. Just use the return jack to bypass the Hliner preamp.
Not sure if one rack space will make that much difference (compared to what you're using now).

I have now used my mM for a couple of rehearsals and one gig. The gig was a 1 set affair in the gym/cafeteria of a local elementary school. So, up on an elevated wooden stage at one side of the room.

This amp really kicks ass! I have decided I really like the compressor, too. It's nice to mostly play fingerstyle but have an occasional string pop that sounds good without being out of place loud.

I used it at my big band rehearsal last night. I got there early and had time to setup and sit down in front of the amp with my bass and really play with the EQ settings to get the sound I wanted. My default go to is bumped up mids with a little bass cut and a lot of treble cut. The 4-band on the mM really let me dial things in to sound the best (to me, anyway) I have sounded in the big band. To my surprise, I ended up with one of the mid bands cut and the other boosted. I don't remember the exact settings now. It was sounding kind of boomy before I got it dialed in, but I ended up with a sound that was very even across all 6 strings on my bass, and very clear sounding, with no muddy bottom.

I am very happy with this amp!

Im about to drop some money on a new head as my Crown Xti just went up in smoke last weekend. Ive read most of this thread and even though I know the heads still pretty new, have there been any reported problems yet? Someone said the fans loud but thats not an issue, to me anyway. But anything of great importance? Ive played several Peaveys and never had an issue with any of them over the years, ever. Ive got three heads on the table, the MiniMega, the Mesa D800 and the Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0. Gotta make a decision......

BTW, wheres all the videos for this head? Only ones Ive seen are from Peavey.

I've seen a guy comment on TB that he had problems with one, got a replacement and it had problems and he gave up. There are a couple of negative reviews on Amazon.

I'm the loud fan guy. Here's my take. This amp sounds pretty awesome and can be had for under $500. It has a two year warranty and peavey is pretty easy to deal with. You might have problem. But there seem to be several, including me, that aren't having problems (it's early so that could change).

I've had a Mesa (prodigy) and Genz (streamliner) that both needed warranty repair. A Euphonic Audio needed out of warranty repair and they did it free anyway. Point being any amp could have a problem. Like Ampeg, GK and Behringer I wouldn't buy one used because of no warranty but I'm OK with a new one.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of those amps. But if I had to choose just one it would be the d800. I have one also. But I'm not comfortable gigging either it or the peavey without the other close by for backup.

I would love to see some more demo vids, too, or even performances where folks are using them...peter steele is one of my favorite bassists ever and he used peavey his entire career...only time I ever saw him with something other than peavey was at a concert I'm using had an ampeg backline...didn't sound the same...his clean tone always killed through his max preamp...if this amp gets the max sound, that would be bonus, but I have heard enough good sounding peavey gear and had enough of my own to know that this head is right up there with everyone else...those pvh 212 cabs are looking very interesting, too...

These are a couple of cell phone clips my wife took last weekend from a dive bar gig. Not sure if you can tell much. We're an original band but ironically she only got pieces of the two covers we did. The guitarist has a biting high mid/treble sound and voice, the drummer is pretty busy so I try to get a smooth, thick low/low mid thing going vs a cut through kind of tone.

i've been using my old crown ma1200 with alembic f2b the past few months.. its hard to beat that set up.. but this mM has stopped me from looking at another popular micro.... i just need to try one out soon...

Update on the carrying case strap break and subsequent fall to the driveway. Got to play Friday night, first time since it fell to the concrete from about 2.5'. Extremely happy to report that the mM is working and sounding fine! There are a couple of marks on the back of the amp, but nothing major or broken. There are cuts through the case where it fell, so if you want to use this case for protection from falls, I would find something else. One of the plastic clips broke on the strap. If they had used metal clips and d rings on the bag, I don't think this would have happened. Just be aware when transporting unit over shoulder. I will looking for another method of transport for this tank!

Man, I guess I still have to try that D800 to see what its' all about. I was very close to a D800 purchase, when the Magellan 800 sidetracked me. Then the Peavey MM1000 came along I just went with that based on the power and features it offered. I've been very happy with this amp so far. I gigged it again last nite at a Houston premiere blues club. I buddy sat in towards end of nite and he's a awesome bassist and keyboardist. I left my cell ph on stage in my bag, wished I'da took it to back of club and shot some vid, it sounded real good back there.

I've been very lucky in that all the new amps I've bought, several Genz Benz, GK MB800, Carvin B1500, Ampeg V4B, 3 different Markbass amps and now this Peavey have never had issues. I did buy a B-stock Ampeg PF800 that started having shut down issues, so sent it back. I then bought a new PF800 because I liked it so much, figured a new one would be safe. After a few gigs with it, it shut down twice at two different gigs with two different bass cabs, so back it went.

Both times I spoke with Ampeg support and although they were very helpful with all the info they offered, I just decided to send it back. Too bad, as I really liked what I was hearing from that amp. So I ended up with the Ampeg V4B a few weeks later and its been great.

Yeah, I've lost confidence in that Peavey carry bag. It worked fine first few times I carried amp around because I was careful about using it. But with the open side pockets, my tuner and cables fell out twice. And worse, the amp slid out of the bag while it was laying in the back of my SUV cargo area. That single bit of Velcro doesn't seem to secure the flap well enough. I now carry my MM in a very nicely padded backpack which has a lot of pockets so I can carry all my cables, tuner, mic, extension cords, etc in one bag and its' all well secured. I relegated the Peavey bag to backup carry of my GK MB800 which I slide under the seat of my ride as I never gig without a backup amp.

Thanks man! Played a theatre show this past weekend (~600-person capacity) and it SLAYED. Amp was chillin' at around 11 o'clock and could still feel the thumpy goodness. Great purchase so far.

I've had my miniMega for a week. Very satisfied so far. It was easy for me to get a good solid tone and I really haven't had the time to tweak it. I haven't even experimented with the Narrow Q so I'm pretty excited about all of the possibilities.

I'm running it through a Carvin B4100 8ohm 800w cabinet. Looking to go to some cabinets that don't weigh a ton so I don't have to break my back...

I was considering going back to a power amp, but I was suduced by all the pretty lights. Surprisingly good tone that slams! If I just want power I can always go into the efx return. Satisfied and happy, except now I want a minimax as my back up.

Well, played the mM Friday night with friends in my garage. We had played for about 3.5 hours and I was switching basses. I remember pushing the mute button before the change, but apparently I didn't push it in all the way. Pulled the cable out of the jack of my bass and got the loud pop! Said a few cuss words and plugged the cable in my other bass, went to hit the mute button and it wasn't lit up. No sound coming from my bass and noticed all the lights except the Peavey and Mini Mega lights were off. Needless to say, that was the end of jamming. Unplugged everything from the amp and let sit for about 10 minutes. Plugged the power cord back in and the amp would come on, but wouldn't cycle through the lights completely. Did this a few times and then the lights cycled and I got sound from my bass. Whew, thought it was just some fail safe since I got the loud pop and just needed some time to reset. Went to bed. Woke up the next morning to find it was doing the same thing as previously did, not cycling through and no sound.

Yesterday, sent a message to Bobby about the situation. He told me to take the top off and check the ribbon connectors for the lights. He thought the drop to the concrete may have disconnected one of the ribbon connectors and this would not let the preamp work. Took the top off and checked everything and sure enough the bottom ribbon connector when I pulled on it came right out. Made sure it was in the plug firmly and powered on, cycled through the lights and plugged my bass in and had sound! Woohoo! Now I just need to get some hot glue on that connector and I think my troubles are over.

Thanks Talkbass and a big thanks to Bobby for helping. Say what you will about Peavey, but I have never had any problems with anyone from Peavey, always have been helpful and friendly.
