Funny you mention fitting a humbucker in neck position.

Probass over here who designed the Retrovibe basses just started selling these

Series or parallel wiring options. Dave the owner recommends wiring like a T-40. I bought one to try in a Harley Benton PB-50 for a T-45
vibe but there's always the Foundation project it could go in,it's missing a Super Ferrite at the neck.

Finally I did what I always wanted, I put SD SRB1n neck pickup on Patriot, sound is amazing, so vintage, so old school, so agressive with balls and Rickenbacker vibe, I'm very satisfied. Sorry for crappy pic but I will upload some better ones and video clip for sure!!!! :D :D :D The other two things I did were new frets (vintage nickel ones) and setup of course! ;)

I've been away for years, and the first thing I do upon my return is ask a stupid question :rollno:. Hopefully I get some credit for owning a Foundation, a Patriot stratocopy, a Classic VTX 212 amp, all Peavey USA :thumbsup:. And I owned Classic 20 amp.

Is a Patriot mahogany bass in reasonably good condition (minor scuffs & scratches, no gouges or chips) worth $250.00? I ran across one in a pawn shop, and my research indicates that while they're not super rare, they're certainly not common.

My understanding is that when the Patriots were brand new, you could order one with a mahogany finish for an upcharge of $75.00. From what seems to be available on the market today, I'd say that most Patriots got ordered with the mahogany finish! Painted ones seem to be more rare. I have seen prices from $99.00 to $299.00 on these over the last couple of years. I bought mine about three years ago from a GC in Albany, NY for $99.00. I got lucky. It was a good one, with the normal amount of nicks and dings. No case.

An excellent condition mahogany Patriot with OEM case would be worth every bit of $250.00 today, IMHO. They are not gonna make any more, and the price is not coming down. I don't see how you could lose, if you are looking for a great player that you will be keeping for some time to come. If the one you are looking at is already in "Player Condition", without an OEM case, I would try to negotiate downwards....say $200.00? I would have no problem paying that for one today in such a condition.

Still.....if it plays great and you love it, what's another $50.00? Keep anything long enough, and it will be worth more. SOME day!;)

I share your thoughts, and thank you for the pricing info. The price for the mahogany Patriot isn't a steal, but is certainly isn't outrageous. EDIT--I repeated myself, oops.

My wife "threw a wrench in the works." On the same day that I found the Patriot, she bought a lot of music gear for the school where she works, and is going to be selling the gear she doesn't need. Hopefully making enough to get the gear she needs for free. One item is a Peavey Millennium International (unfortunately not a USA) four string in mint/studio-use-only condition, and I've been itching for a jazz bass.

Peavey Foundation USA at pawnshop for $249.00 update:

--Neck was a little warped. I've seen much worse.
--The tone control didn't work at all.
--Was little more used than I originally noticed, but still not bad.
--No case. Was promised a gig bag "if" they had one. So did it come with one and they were making a show of "giving" it to me? Or was it just said as part of the sales pitch? I dunno.
--Was offered a whopping $10.00 off for downloading their app. No other discount was offered even after the non-functioning tone control was discovered.

So this is what the (mostly) sanded body of my Patriot, just have to finish the horn region and do some finishing sanding, and it's ready to go.. After sanding it, and finding the pleasant surprise of a 3-piece symmetrical body, I'm debating on doing a 2-tone stain instead of a solid colour.

Originally it was red, black pickguard, maple neck.

I need some opinions on what I should do with this. I was originally going to go a bright "safety yellow," but have changed to a dark purple colour. As I mentioned above, i was debating the stained/satin finish.

What do you guys think would look good? I apologize for the crappy pictures, my cell phone is on its way out after the effects of a 2-year old!

My mid-eighties Peavey Patriot bass is really buzzy. You can even hear the buzz/hum as a note is being sustained. It has the original Super Ferite pickup in it. I was thinking about installing a different pickup in her. Maybe a hum-bucker instead? Maybe there is a wiring or grounding issue?

I am playing it through a Carvin MB15 combo amp which is sitting on top of a small wooden dresser.

Current T-20 owner interested in buying a patriot but I have a few questions that you'd probably be able to answer..

1. Is the neck on the patriot thinner or smaller in any way than the T-20 neck?

2. How do they differ in sound? From videos I've seen of the patriot it doesn't seem drastically different than my T-20.

3. Is the neck glossed on the back like a T-20 neck?

Hi GF- My observations...

1. The neck appears to be the same. No perceptible difference to me. I'm sure it made sense from a manufacturing standpoint to be able to continue to use the same series necks on the later Patriots.

2. Very subjective here. The ash on the T20 is a good tonewood, but to my ears, the Patriot MIGHT have a slightly "warmer" tone (mahogany body).

3. Yes, the neck is as glossy. See number 1.

So....why have both? The Patriot has a smaller, thinner and lighter body and would be kinder to your back for playing for extended periods (AND)
It looks cool! (at least to me)
