Peavey Scorpion replacement???

I'm probably still going to replace the basket for the old driver, but now I can just kinda do that whenever, no rush.
So...no rush was over the weekend. I found a NOS 15" basket for a bit over a $100 shipped. I swapped out the baskets earlier this week. I think I see the problem with the old one -

Yo Defin, you have blown 2 now? As someone who used to blow JBl D-140s back in the day I know why. Too much power ie playing too loud for a single scorpion to live for long.

I saw above in the thread you suggested that the head shouldn’t blow the speaker because the head is also an olde peavey. But it would either have been paired with the much more common 215 cab or Two of the cabs you have.

I’d get another one. Still cheap out there and then you would have a proper stack for loud music and look boss at the same time.

I went a slightly different route -

...but I didn't know that about using 2 15s with that head. But also that single 15 sounds kinda awesome with the Music Man HD130 Reverb head I also have, as a guitar rig, so...

Hello @definenredefine -- sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I'm currently in a VERY similar situation! Been using Music Man heads for years (mainly an HD-150 head for both bass and guitar, more recently a 75 head), though I just picked up a new setup: a 100 RD head and cabinet. After getting it back home and really looking into it more, I suspect that it's a bit of a homebrew thing -- the head might be rehoused from a 112 combo, and the speaker cab is loaded with a -- you guessed it! -- Peavey Scorpion Plus 15". Looks like the 4ohm version based on the label on the basket.

Also wondering if the magnet is interchangeable with a replacement 8ohm basket -- I figured they would be but thought I'd ask someone with firsthand experience. (In the process of pulling things apart and trying to figure out what the speaker was, I removed the magnet, though I suspect I might have damaged the voice coil when putting it back on. Serves me right, I suppose.) Thanks in advance if there's any insight you can provide!
