Peavey T-40 Club Part 2

I have yet to adjust my T-40 properly. I have not found the right tool to adjust the neck tilt. It says a 1/8 Allen wrench, but nothing seems to happen when I do it.

I strung mine up for C standard months ago and I adjusted everything but the neck tilt. The action gets a bit higher as I go up the neck. After the 12th fret, it's a little too high for my liking.

GAS definitely led me to that bass, I was in love with the T-40 at first sight, now I got one!

If the neck tilt is skewed, just pop the neck off and stick a small shim at the bottom of the neck pocket.

Not necessary with Peavey basses, as they almost all have a set screw to do the job of the shim. It bears against a metal plate installed in the neck, at the pocket. There's an access hole in the neck plate to adjust it.

You need to loosen the neck plate screws before you adjust tilt, so it has room to tilt.

It's very sensitive. A 1/4 turn of the tilt screw can make a big difference in relief at the high frets.

I don't mean to derail this thread, but I just saw the band MuteMath this past Sunday here in Knoxville. Great band, incredible show, and their bass player ROY MITCHELL-CARDENAS kicks a$$ AND rocked his T-40 most of the show (he left his P's on the stand except for a song or 2). I don't own a T-40 (but I will snatch one up if I run across one), but my first guitar was a T-60 and I love the retro vibe of these models.

Just a heads up that a black, fairly lightweight 1980 T-40 will be coming up for sale at the main Tom Lee Music store in Vancouver. It's kinda beat but it plays well and sounds great. $200 is the ballpark I'd guess. I don't have any affiliation with Tom Lee I was just there when it came in on trade and played it for half an hour.

adding myself to the Peavey T-40 Club! Awesome bass, I think this is one of the '81 models...???

Anyway it plays freakin' awesome and per their reputation has lots of different tones. The electronics are an interesting batch but everything works, just missing the one volume knob.

Hi everyone!!! As of today, add me to the T-40 club. I just picked it up, and pulled a muscle when I did. Just kidding, this is my latest bass, a 1979 T-40. Pretty good shape for the age. I'll try to get better pictures.

So glad I never sold mine. I kinda quite playing about three years ago, sold 2 other basses I had, but never wanted to sell my T-40.

I've kinda started to get back into the biz, and have fallen in love all over again with the T-40, and playing in general.

Here is another T-40 I just traded another bass for. Its a 1984 original case with all the paper work from when it was bought new. Just took it in for a once-over, all is good. Really plays nice, the pick-ups are way hotter than the 79 I have.
