I case anyone might be interested, I had also bought a second T-40 at the time I got mine. It was a transparent Candy apple red finish. It had the metal nut, a maple fret board, contoured body, the "heavy" style switches, no dots on the pick guard (next to the knobs), toaster slot pickups w/center rails, and a 4 clip contour case. It was confirmed by Peavey as a 1984 model. (see my reply, date is wrong)

Here are a couple pics (wish they were better) of the Bass I was told was transparent candy apple red. The grain shows and the finish had a "swirl" look, very much like a hard shell candy apple. I have to clarify one thing from my original post, after checking my records I found that I had not checked the date on this one so I can only say that it is newer then 1982. I think it is from 84/85 but I could be wrong.

Just an FYI to others with the issue mine has that was easily fixed. I may have read this remedy on this thread. The A string had a slight rattle when played open. I tried lowering the saddle, but that didn't help. I cut the tiniest piece of cardboard off the back of a legal pad and slipped it into the groove, and problem solved. You can't even tell it's there.

Thanks for the compliments on the Candy apple T-40 and my birdseye neck. I wish I still had the Candy apple, but the wife would only let me keep one and I have alway been a sucker for a great neck.

I posted the headstock serial # about 3 days ago on the Peavey bass forum via Peavey.com and there's been (to quote Genesis) "no reply at all..." and its been 3 days now.

Seems like that forum has VERY little activity.

Anyway, if anyone knows an alternate place to try, I'd appreciate it.

Oh, and I tried bidding on that gorgeous sunburst on the 'Bay. Yeah...not happening for me!

Eilif, as long as you're taking care of these details, the appearance of the "Peavey T-40" logotype on the pickguard would seem to be a thing worth noting.

It's printed on the original plastic pickguard cover, which that bass still has.

I have a 6 digit serial numbered bass that definately predates the 8M series (bought it new). I also have one of the "zero" basses (first 10 sample basses).

I don't believe Peavey ever made a lefty T-40, certainly not for the general public.

Well I finally took the plunge and will get my T-40 soon. It's missing a knob...where oh where can I find one? I'll post pics when I get it next week.
