Peavey T-40 help

For Christmas, my girlfriend bought me the bass I've had my eye of for quite some time: A Black on Black 1981 Peavey T-40. It's perfect except for two things: Some fool decided to replace the steel nut with a graphtech one, and The bridge pickup only works when I put the pickups out of phase. I plan to track down a steel nut at some point, but what worries me right now is the pickup situation. I like the fullness of the in-phase sound, and the out of phase tone sounds like a junky silvertone to me. The neck pup sounds great, now all i have to do is get the bridge one working. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

The most likely prob with the bridge PU is the phase switch. The bridge PU is wired to and it's signal passes through the phase switch. If the switch takes a lick it can get wonky. Not a totally easy fix but not too bad if you're good with tools and can solder.
