Peavey Tube Head CHEAP in La Mesa

some early reports indicated asian production but the ones i have seen were marked USA made and that's how it's been promoted

Supposedly they were going to make them in China, but decided not to at the last minute.

You know, I just couldn't believe this thread at first. I contacted my local GC for a price match and they basically laughed at me. So today I called GC HQ in Oregon and gave them the story with the prices on this head and the stores involved. At first the lady didn't believe me either...but she called around and confirmed the price and matched it! Unbelievable. I wanted to thank you guys for posting this information! You saved me a bunch of cash.
Did they price match on a "new" one? These deals are supposedly only on floor models, so if you got them to price match a new head you got an even better deal than the rest of us!
They are also on NEW IN BOX VB-2 heads...or so my local GC Manager told me. I used to work there and he and I are friends. He said he would call around and find me a NIB VB-2 and snag it. Mine is coming from Memphis, TN because it showed that the store had their VB-2 the least amount of time.

I can't even describe how painful this thread is to read. I've been wanting one of these heads for months, but the closest GC to me is in Souix Falls, SD!
It definitely has some great tones in it. I played my RB5 through it, and it has some pretty decent growl, while still keeping the warmer tube sound underneath.
The amp is still in new condition, although it's been out in the room for about 6 months according to Nyroh (an anagram of Horny). All the knobs are on it and functioning, no scratches or tears in the Tolex. I don't have any other all-tube amps, so this is kind of new territory for me. I did have the presence of mind to set the output impedance. I'm playing through a D-210XST right now, and it sounds great. It'll be cool to hear it through a 410 or that Bergie HT322.

As of yesterday they still had one in San Marcos. I tried one out (not sure if it's still the same floor model) earlier this month and it sounded horrible. Probably an issue with the tubes since it wasn't putting out nearly the volume it should have been.

Okay, Munji, I'm confused - how can you be in Groom Lake Nevada and San Diego California at the same time? Holiday visit?
Anyway...
I called the San Marcos store, yes they had one left, so I drove up and grabbed it! $399, but still a great deal.
Tried it at home through a couple cabs and it sounds pretty good to me (it's my first-ever all tube bass amp) and LOUD.
I'm looking forward to punishing my bandmates tonight at the gig (we had 'issues' last night).
BTW Munji, I'm using an HT-322 on the gig, I'll post a report.
