Peavey US basses...PLEASE COME BACK.

I'm not really convinced that, in the late 70's, the market was ready to accept that there were better basses than Fenders out there unless they said Alembic on the headstock. Not knocking Fenders - I'm a fan of them too.

I also think Peavey suffered a little bit by ongoing changes to its existing lineup. I don't know if it was driven by creativity, innovation, sales or all of the above, but I really believe the Foundation would have the next Precision if they hadn't abandoned the line. For a while, Peavey was really making inroads and being highly visible in the country genre with the Foundation and later with the TL5.

And I STILL don't know who Tim Landers is. Great basses, though.

Tim Landers was a fusion guy. He played on some Al DiMeola albums.

Something I was wondering about the other day: How can you tell the difference between a US Cirrus and an import? I mean, assuming you can't just look at the headstock. Any differentiating factors that stand out visually?

One thing that I think is pretty consistent is that the US models, at least the recent ones, have an indentation of the serial number on the back of the headstock. Never seen anything other than pictures of an import Cirrus so I can't help with that.....

Aint going to happen. Whats the going price of used Furies and foundations? Like $300 and under. Or t40's? they would cost a ton to make nowadays and I have one for sale at $400 and it isnt going fast. How could they compete with the used market? Maybe if old Peaveys went for what new ones would sell for , sure they could but obviously the demand isnt there.

Opinions on an '06 US Millennium then?? One clean local. Worth a drive at 4?

If you are talking about this one:

Better snag it quick. My brother lives in Walnut Creek. Thinking of asking him to go get it for me. ;)

Thanks for sharing that. I own quite a bit of DiMeola's discography. Never really paid much attention to the list of personnel on his albums and I normally do with others. Have listen to some of his work...

He was on a double album that featured Anthony Jackson too. He played some wicked pick lines. There is also a YouTube clip of him playing a slap solo on a 1st Generation TL5.

I bet that has a detuner too. That is a great buy for sure!

Actually, Doc, it's a rare standard with the birdseye fretboard upgrade. Has the standard tuners. matching headstock too, though! A Beauty. If I hadn't bought a carbon graphite Kawai last week I'd be all over this baby. But, that would be the fourth Millie I bought in the past year. Probably not good for the marriage.

I think you are right although I would love to see them come back.

According to this thread, if it is a nice bass, it is a US model. If it is junk, it is an import. :)

I believe the US models usually say Peavey in a standard Peavey font above the truss rod cover. The BXP's usually have a loopier logo above the truss and might or might not say Cirrus. Also, most of the BXP's I've seen have monorail bridges and the US models usually have a traditional bridge.

Well, there's a good chance that I have it. Just checked what I have in the cloud. 23 albums....

I may have some other albums that he's on ..

Actually, it wasn't the birdseye. They made a Millennium and a Millennium Plus . The Plus had the flamed maple top. The 4-string Plus had the detuner.

I believe a direct order system with regional showrooms for their basses could work. That would be new model, and would upset loyal dealers, plus getting any new business model up and running will cost a lot of money.
Hey Doc, when your ready to sell that cirrus you have let me know :) I have to get one some day. Someone will get gas and sell one, hopefully I'll have the money at the time :)
