Peavey Windsor amp for bass

It can be done, but if you want headroom and volume you will be disappointed. Also, you will need to run it into a bass cabinet because the guitar speakers will likely blow from the lower frequencies.

I ran a Peavey Butcher head into a bass cab and it was fantastic at lower volumes. After a certain point, though, it got real boomy and useless. It just wasn't able to keep up with a band volume-wise (not that you may not find a low wattage tube amp for bass that could). One of the shortcomings, I believe, was that the frequency range was not meant for bass.

I recently posted a thread on modifying a windsor for bass-do a search. If you can wield a soldering iron (or know a tech who can) it's a few fairly easy mods to do that really gives a good increase in low end. I use one with an ampeg 2x15 and 8x10 live. It will really hold its own. It's not as bottom heavy as my pre/power amp setup but then that's got another 1100 watts to it.

If you want to hear my windsor in action, check out the first two songs on the myspace page in the link below.
