I've been using the same amp since I started playing bass 2 years ago. Recently I bought a washburn B-2 and I had some feedback but fixed it. 2 weeks ago I bought a used digitech death metal distortion pedal from sam ash and it has caused more feedback from what I can see. It also never wants to work. Any ideas?

I LOVE my Peavey Basic 112, the Red-face version from 2004. I replaced the 8 ohm with a Mesa Powerhouse by Eminence 4 ohm and it's now a super clean sounding 70 watts! But concerning the feedback issue, are you paying attention to the idea of unity gain? I use a BDDI and favor the treble side, but if I try to crank the BDDI too far past unity then I get feedback when too close. Just a thought.

I also use a Basic 112 Red-face. My only remaining amp after a 12 year hiatus away from playing. I am interested in how the sound improved when you changed your speaker and also in adding another cabinet as well. I'm trying to hold off on buying a rig until I really need it so I can get something awesome a little down the road. I would really like to hot rod my Basic 112 a bit to improve my practice setup and make things a little more interesting.

In the three years since that post my BASICs (I have two) have undergone some transformations. I still have the 4ohm speaker in one but I pulled the amp and slid in a GenzBenz Shuttle 3.0. It's still under 50 pounds but truly kicks butt!
My other BASIC now has a Basslite S2012 NeoMag speaker from Eminence. Still 8ohms but gives me more clarity than stock. I'm sure the SPL and Xmax are better, too. This is my amp of choice for coffee house/acoustic jams with my EPI El Capitan AEB.
I line all of my cabs/combos with self-adhesive damping.
Early on I used an extension cab and that is what I would suggest if keeping your BASIC. Not only does it get it closer to ear level but doubling speakers increases volume more than going from 50watts @ 8hms to 70watts @ 4ohms with one speaker.
If you want to build a cab for a 12" speaker using the inside dimensions and port size of the BASIC for guidance I'll be more than happy to send you one of my stock speakers FOC. They're just taking up room over here!
