Peavy Nitrobass

Considering purchase of the following setup from a friend:

210 TVX Cabinet and Peavy Nitrobass Amp (350W) - approx 5 years old

Being that I'm net to non combo amp setups, does anyone have any advice?

Pro/Cons are greatly appreciated.

I think the question that has to be answered"how much?". Nothing wrong with either of those products. If we knew what combo you were using, what kind of music you were playing, what basses you were using etc, this would be a lot more answerable.

Asking $400; though seems a little steep.

Playing pretty straight forward rock (heavier side)

Current combo is a Fender Rumble 100; so anything will be improvement.

You can probably do better for your 400. I would offer $300. It will last forever. Peavey stuff is tough. Also you can add cabs if you want later. Only real cons with peavey are the weight. They build those things heavy and durable.

I don't know where the 350W is coming from; the Nitros are 300W/4ohms and 450W/2 ohms. The 210 TVX is worth around $150-$200, so that's not a bad deal.

I'd see if you could just get the head for no more than $250 or so and then get a 4 ohm 212 Avatar for it. OTOH, you could always sell the 210 cab later. BIG fan of the Nitros, the TVX cabs not so much.

Back of amp by power cord input shows 350W. Guessing that is some sort of avg rating depending on ohms.

Based on reading of other forums it seems as though the Nitrobass heads are going in the 200-225 range.

The rating by the power cord is based on how many amps the head draws at 120 volts.

P = V * I -> 350 = 120 * I -> your draw is about 3 amps, yay physics!


And yes you want another 4 ohm cab to pull out all it has to offer, but believe me that 300 watts through those 210s is pretty powerful. Okay, well I run 400w through a 210TX and have yet to roast the cab or need more. Unless you're going unamplified, then you should just be okay with that setup unless you like boomy bass.

Try it and see if 300 watts is enough. I run mine with one 4 ohm 2x12 all the time, and it's loud. Keep the gain up around 6 or even a little higher if your bass's output is fairly low, and leave the stupid contour knob all the way counter-clockwise (off). I rarely crank the master higher than 4 1/2 or so and it's LOUD.

If your definition of loud differs from mine, then sure, get another 4 ohm cab for the full 450 watts @ 2 ohms.

Is there any problem with adding an 8 ohm 410 to the mix?

In doing so, it really appears to have improved the sound and really on requires the amp to be turned up to 25% or so.
