May as well post my board here, for prosperity:

Posterity. Future generations.

So I am having a bunch of trouble figuring the best way to buffer and then debuffer and the rebuffer.

When I think about it, the pedals that I have with buffers are:

- Johnk Cornish Ss2b
- Boss OC-2, CE-3, LS-2
- Decibel 11 Pedal Palette
- One Control Mosquite Blender
- Mufx Octave Divider
- Sfx MicroThumpinator

And then I have 3 buffer busters.

So my thought was run:

Bass -> Loopy* -> Mosquite Blender** -> One Control White Loop*** -> Decibel 11**** -> LS-2*****

* Loopy Loop 1: Big Muffs and Tonebender
loopy Loop 2: Octaves with buffered bypass. So first buffer(s)

** Mosquite Blender: BUFFER BUSTER -> Fuzz Loop

*** One Control White Loop:
- Green Loop: Moogerfoogers
- Red Loop: BUFFER BUSTER -> Spaceman Loop -> Kallas SS2B BUFFER

**** Decibel 11 Pedal Palette: run with Buffers and run a BUFFER BUSTER in the dirt thread.

Does anyone know where the buffer would be in the Mosquite Blender? Is the whole loop buffered or is it only on output?

Yeah, absolutely no docs I can find on the buffer in the OneControl and where it is in the chain.

OK, so as promised, a small update to the board...BTW the outdoor gig went OK yesterday, the sound was good, and I guess they could hear us on the other side of the park, normally I'd be happy about that, but considering I played pretty much horrible, all my clams could be heard on the other side of the park as well...

OK, board updates!

The Saturnworks blender & Ultimate Drive are off.

The HOF mini found a new home, just wasn't using reverb all that much.

The Fdeck HPF3 has been moved “downstairs”...and I've tried to clean up the wiring mess down there too...kinda :help:

The VT Bass is on! :bassist:

I was using the blended UD as my low gain overdrive, but now that I've had a few hours with the VT Bass...I wish I had bought one sooner, I'm so stoked with how it sounds, I'm hoping my search for a light OD is done....

The Blower Box is still serving me well as my face melter distortion, it sounds sooo cool when I run in into my Phase 90! drool

Now I still need to look into a nice fuzz...I'm really interested in the Blakemore Dues Ex Machina, might be my next purchase.

Uggg, I just noticed my board is on the same page as nshuman's board....that's a tough act to follow! :bag:

DUDE! So jealous at how clean your board is underneath. :)

I saw one somewhere that had a blueish/purpleish color. Is want that one, being as how I like purple.

Oh oh. Idea. How about let's show our purple pedals? I like purple.

When Ryan had the pre-order going, you could get whatever you wanted -- any of like 6 or 7 colors, or rainbow (each band a different color), or old-school (red/yellow/green/yellow/red on each band). The highest freq. band on the rainbow ones he made was purple. For the regular production, he's going with red and blue because they are easier to get, I guess. You could always shoot him an email and see if he would be willing to make you a purple one -- worst case is he says no.

Purple pedals you say?

Perhaps a puny purple Phase pedal from Portland (presently possible to purchase)?

Or this lovely Spaceman Aphelion that came to me by way of Australia (my wife's favorite color is also purple and it was a gift from her -- the purple edition was only made available through a store Down Under):

My next board may be purple. A nice vivid, electric shade of purple placed second to Cheetos Bag Orange when planning the add-on board.

Seriously though, I would probably use the VIB if I were OK with having loops and such, with a more complex board because it is a great, flexible buffer, and would be great in complex setups. But I'm trying to keep things as simple as I can for ease of use on gigs. After this weekend's gigs, I have decided not to put the Sputnik on the board, but just the B:Assmaster, and possibly the TAFM. The Sputnik is at its best soloed, IMO. I like the B:Assmaster and even the TAFM a little better in the mix. I'm not going to sell the Sputnik, but I do think it will end up in the pedals drawer if I end up having to take the PP2 off my add-on board to help power the larger board I'll be building in a few weeks.

So I definitely want to hear more about this, the way that Sputnik does or doesn't fit in with a gigging board. I've not yet tried mine with my band - I'm hoping this week will give me a chance to do that - but obviously I've got to get a buffer buster in there first (my ACG is active) and it hasn't arrived yet, that's the biggest thing I'm waiting for. TAFM I know all about, and I don't have a Bassmaster (yet?) but I do have an Attack Goat that shares some similarities, so I know how well those can slice through and/or fit in with the band mix.

Playing the Sputnik at home, it definitely sounds out of this world, and there is so much potential to it. I'm not really a home playing dude though - it has to work with the band for me, or it doesn't stay.

I think I could definitely get a better sound out of the Sputnik for live use if I had the time to fiddle with it during songs on a gig or if we spent more time practicing as a band -- it's an incredibly sensitive, interactive, and dynamic fuzz with a ton of tonal possibilities -- but it's just plain simple to dial in a great fuzz tone in the mix on the B:Assmaster. If I knew more about exactly what kinds of tone would cut through best I could probably dial in the Sputnik better, but I am still surprised at times by what works really well in the mix and what doesn't work as well.

Yeah, I hear you on that one. Even just this week, the Crimson King sounded great when practising at home, but when in the mix with my band it was less convincing. That said, I'd be willing to bet that other guys would find it to be brilliant in their bands and with their tones. Trial and error seems to be the only way to test these things out. I'll see what Thursday brings then with the Sputnik, and maybe hold off on velcroing it up until I've had that test run through.

Did that tonight with mine actually. I will say this....
It KILLED in the mix. When I changed basses over to my WAY hot jazz it was epic crap. Passive Peavey Foundation 5er was the way to go with it.
The only reason it's not on the gig board is I actually like the Duality and Battering Ram better. Just a little though.

Interesting. So clearly it'll need the buffer buster before I bother trying it out live. Good to hear stories of it fitting well into the mix though!

Before I head to bed, a quick but odd observation from my second gig this weekend...I don't dare post this in the amp forum (and not because it would be trolling!!!)...but I had to use backline as opposed to my own amp (Aguilar TH350), and what they supplied was an SVT Classic with a 4x10. Legendary amp that everyone loves, right? Well guess what? It sounded horrible to me! I tried like heck to mess with the EQ and gain to get some sort of a growl out of it along the lines of what my Aggie gives me with the greatest of ease, but to no avail. Sure, I had a big round bottom end, but my Aggie does that too. The amp was completely without the snarl/growl that is so critical to me. I was so disappointed.

I've never been a fan of Ampeg, but in the past when I've had to use their amps as backline or whatever reason, they've been okay (at best), whereas last night was just a massive letdown. It was as though someone dropped a blanket over my tone. :( No offence intended to any of the Ampeg fans out there amongst the Breeders, but it was a great example of how amp tone can be just as personal of a thing as tone from effects is, and a wonderful reminder of how important the "Aguilar sound" is to my overall tonal picture. Even with all my effects there and my #1 bass, I couldn't wrangle the sound I wanted out of this rig.

Complaining over, thanks for listening! :)

Man I've had that very same experience. I am currently just using my TC RH450 and a beat up Hartke 215vx. Couldn't be happier. Sold my Mesa and cab just because I couldn't justify owning something I wouldn't use.
My purple-ish pedals ...
Funkzilla, Starla, Vortex, Quint, Manta, Blue Berry (sort of)

Sounds like ''4x10 on the floor right behind'' disease.

You have to figure in the fact that it's a tube pre and it will add a lot of compression and muddiness until you learn to have it work for you. Especially with effects. I'll be honest, I have never tried an all tube amp that did not disappoint me for the first 5 minutes.

If I get to play with it for an hour, actually spend the whole time readjusting the gain settings on my board, and adjusting the eq on the amp, then I like it. But, the reality is that they are not magical. You have to work at it to get the clarity you are used to get with SS or certain hybrid amps.
