The sheer amount of control is... man... you are the MIDI Master on TB.

For some reason, I want a preamp for my board. Suggestions besides the B7K, go!

Ever since I got the MicroBass II I've been in love with it.

I have tried these ones...

What are the ones on the bottom left and top left?

Thanks, man. I know there are plenty of others who do a lot of great stuff too---they're probably playing instead of posting on TB! Really, the thing is that I GAS for all of that control and then I somewhat underutilize it. I am really jealous of what Nathan Navarro does with the HH3 and Guitar Wing, not that that is my goal or musical style. However, I at least have all of my MIDI clocks synced, and I can control all of my presets (and several expression parameters) from my iPad / Guitar Wing / Reflex instead of doing a tap dance and scrolling through dozens of things. So that part is working out GREAT for me.

When was the last time you listened to any of the K&D sessions? These dudes were the original deal. 1998 Kruder and Dorfmeister. I saw them once in Berlin and they just killed. I was never a big electronica fan but these guys are amazing.

Sounds like ''4x10 on the floor right behind'' disease.

Too funny...that's EXACTLY where it was located. Now, back in the day when I had my SWR rig with a 4x10, I would have it on the floor behind me and never had these sorts of issues. That was 20 years ago though, but I've also had experiences with other backlines since then, and never had problems to this degree. All that said, the point is well taken - lots of factors could be at play here.

You have to figure in the fact that it's a tube pre and it will add a lot of compression and muddiness until you learn to have it work for you. Especially with effects. I'll be honest, I have never tried an all tube amp that did not disappoint me for the first 5 minutes.

If I get to play with it for an hour, actually spend the whole time readjusting the gain settings on my board, and adjusting the eq on the amp, then I like it. But, the reality is that they are not magical. You have to work at it to get the clarity you are used to get with SS or certain hybrid amps.

Ampegs have never really worked for me though. I've been able to wrangle good tones out of Traynors and even the rare Mesa that I've tried, but there is something about Ampeg - be it tube, hybrid, or solid state - that just doesn't fit with the tone I'm looking for. Again, I'll grant that if I'd had an hour to mess with it as opposed to 10 minutes (if that) while soundchecking, I may have been able to improve, so there is a component of this that is user error, I guess...but I'd be willing to bet that if they had a Traynor backline in there I wouldn't have had to make this rant. :)

Yes, that is exactly my point. If you have a pedalboard, are used to a hybrid or ss amp, doing a show with an svt is not a great thing.

If you want to get ready for that kind of thing and you don't have access to one beforehand, try just putting a compressor at the end of your board, with a 4:1 ratio setting. You'll be surprised how much it can help to readjust the gain settings on your pedals and prepare for a tube amp.

Once you know exactly what you need to do though, it's super easy to jump back and forth.

The end of my board is my Diamond Comp that runs all the time (at about 3:1, I believe).

Interesting point from @Mosfed about shutting off some of the warmer dirt pedals when swapping over...maybe I shouldn't have been running my Mini as much as I did, and just stuck with the Attack Goat or even the Crimson King!

Clearly the solution to this "problem" is for me to go out and pick up something like...oh, I don't know...a YBA-200 for my own personal use, to help me get accustomed to full tube amps, so I don't get in a tough situation with a backline again. :) Another thought in retrospect is that given the size and ease of setting up my tiny little Aggie TH350 head, I just should have pulled it out and plugged it in to their cabinet and DI line. I had it with me, but I deferred to them being particular about sticking with the backline. Of course, the band that followed us proceeded to swap out all the gear onstage for their own stuff, so clearly I didn't need to worry about being told no.

Yes, get a traynor :)

Don't feel too bad - it literally took me a couple of years before I figured out why the Faye Sing was called the Faye Sing. I kept on wondering "who is the Faye and why are pedals named after her"? :bag:
Yes....admittingly it was my wife who looked at the Darkglass logo and was like "Oh, that's cool. It's all a bunch of bass clefs."= MIND BLOWN

I think everyone is guilty of being a little late on things that should be obvious at one time or another!

So here are the two boards I built today.

I need a bigger board for the muff and Tonebender board. But for now it will do.

That lineup of green muffs just made me so weak in the knees, it is a good thing I'm sitting down or else I would have fallen over.

Nothing against the Spaceman row, that looks amazing too! :)

I like how you mounted your PT Mini, I may have to steal that.

OMG I never noticed that one before, with DG.

Ooof, my brain. o_O Maybe I need to go see a psychologist or something.
